TWO ORDINANCES OF THE CHURCH

BY WADE MARTIN HUGHES, SR. KYFINGERS@AOL.COM (YouTube: WADE HUGHES)

1 THE FIRST ORDNANCE OF THE CHURCH IS BAPTISM IN WATER

The ordinance of baptism by immersion is commanded by the Scriptures. Every believer must put a strong emphasis on water baptism by immersion. This teaching has a Biblical foundation.

Immersion is the primary mode of water baptism. The baptism of full immersion symbolizes THE DEATH, BURIAL AND RESURRECTION of Jesus Christ. We need to be mindful of this solemn occasion and this action is to be taken as profound.

All who repent and believe on Christ as Savior and Lord are to be baptized. Thus they declare to the world that they have died with Christ and that they also have been raised with Him to walk in newness of life.

A. JESUS COMMANDED WATER BAPTISM IN THE “GREAT COMMISSION.”

We instructed us, a commandment to: “GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES AND BAPTIZE.”

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

B. We need to believe and be baptized.

Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

C. In the New Testament we find the doctrine of water baptism evident. The early church practiced the role of water baptism to spread the Gospel.

Acts 10:47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

D. The power of the water baptism is it is an external sign of an internal evident.

We should voluntarily submit to show evidence of a spiritual change. Water baptism

Is a public declaration of the believers’faith..

Romans 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

HOLY COMMUNION

E. BY SUBMITTING TO WATER BAPTISM WE ACCEPT A COMMUNAL AND RELATIONSHIP WITH THE CHURCH AND THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY. WE IDENTIFY AS BECOMING A PART OF THE BODY OF CHRIST. WATER BAPTISM IDENTIFIES A BELIEVER IS UNIFYING AND CONNECTS US WITH OTHERS IN OBEDIENCE. WE ARE TRANSFORMED, CHANGED.

1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

2 THE ORDINANCE OF COMMUNION.

HISTORY RECORDS THE FALL OF ADAM AND EVE… THEY TOOK LEAVES AND COVERED THEIR NAKEDNESS. THIS IS THE FIRST RECORD OF BLOOD SHED FOR THE SINS OF FALLEN MAN.

Genesis 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

ABEL BRINGS HIS BEST… GOD ACCEPTED HIS BLOOD SACRIFICE.

Genesis 4:4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:

THE PASSOVER OF THE LAMB--- YOU MUST STAY IN THE HOUSE.

Exodus 12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. 14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.

The Lord's Supper, consisting of the elements --bread and the fruit of the vine--- and spiritual evaluation. Communion is the symbol expressing our sharing the divine nature of our Lord Jesus Christ

Matthew 26:26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. 29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom. 30 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
