The Only Way: Why Jesus Alone Saves - John 14:6

Main Idea: Jesus Christ is the exclusive and sufficient way to salvation, offering eternal life to all who believe in Him.

Introduction

The question of eternal destiny is one of the most important we will ever face. Our world offers many paths, ideologies, and philosophies, all claiming to lead to God or enlightenment. Yet, the Bible presents a radically exclusive claim: that Jesus Christ is the only way to God.

Today, we will examine this truth from Scripture, exploring why Jesus is not just one way among many but the way, the truth, and the life. We will understand this claim in its context, unpack its implications, and respond to it in faith.

1. Jesus Declares He Is the Only Way

"Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.’" (John 14:6, NLT)

This verse comes from Jesus’ conversation with His disciples during the Last Supper. Jesus was preparing them for His departure and assuring them of their future with Him. Thomas asked how they could know the way to the Father, prompting Jesus’ profound statement.

The way (hodos in Greek): Jesus is the exclusive path to reconciliation with God. His death and resurrection bridge the gap sin created.

The truth (aletheia): Jesus embodies ultimate reality, revealing God’s character and will.

The life (zoe): Jesus grants eternal, abundant life. This life is not only endless but filled with purpose and communion with God.

Jesus’ claim leaves no room for ambiguity—He alone provides access to the Father.

Have you fully trusted Jesus as the way in your life? Do you rely on His truth to guide your decisions? Are you experiencing His abundant life? Recognise that only through Christ can we find meaning, purpose, and peace.

"There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12, NLT)

Peter’s declaration before the Sanhedrin reinforces Jesus’ exclusivity. Salvation is found in Christ alone because only He paid the penalty for our sins.

Tim Keller wrote, "If Jesus rose from the dead, then you have to accept all He said; if He didn’t rise from the dead, why worry about anything He said?" His resurrection confirms His exclusive claims.

Imagine being lost in a vast forest with no map. A guide appears, saying, "Follow me; I know the way out." To reject him would be to choose to stay lost. Jesus is our guide out of the wilderness of sin—trust Him.

2. Jesus’ Unique Role as Mediator

"For, there is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus." (1 Timothy 2:5, NLT)

Paul, writing to Timothy, emphasises the singularity of God and Christ’s unique role as mediator. A mediator is someone who stands between two parties to bring reconciliation.

The Greek word for "mediator" (mesites) highlights Jesus’ role as the bridge between a holy God and sinful humanity. No one else can fulfil this role because only Jesus is fully God and fully man. His dual nature uniquely qualifies Him to reconcile us to God through His sacrifice.

When you face guilt, shame, or a sense of separation from God, remember Jesus as your mediator. He intercedes for you and grants you access to the Father. Don’t look to your own efforts—rest in His completed work.

"God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners." (Romans 5:8, NLT)

Jesus’ mediation is rooted in God’s love and grace. His death proves His commitment to reconciling us to the Father.

John Piper said, "Jesus did not come to tell us the answers to the questions of life; He came to be the answer."

Consider a chasm separating two cliffs. Jesus’ cross is the bridge that spans the divide between us and God. Without Him, the gap remains uncrossable.

3. Jesus’ Authority Over Life and Death

"Jesus told her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.’" (John 11:25, NLT)

Jesus spoke these words to Martha after the death of her brother Lazarus. In declaring Himself the resurrection, Jesus revealed His power over death and His promise of eternal life to all who believe.

Resurrection (anastasis in Greek): Jesus is the source of new life, both physical and spiritual. His resurrection guarantees our future resurrection.

Life (zoe): Jesus provides eternal life, a quality of existence defined by fellowship with God.

Jesus not only conquers death but transforms it into a gateway to eternal life.

Are you living in the hope of resurrection? Trust in Jesus’ authority over life and death, knowing that He holds your future securely in His hands.

what do you think about prophet mohammed and his messages from god or allah and about the mormons

That is an important and sensitive question, and it deserves a truthful yet compassionate response. As a follower of Jesus Christ, I must measure every teaching, prophet, or message against the unchanging standard of God’s Word—the Bible. Regarding Prophet Mohammed and the Qur’an - Muslims regard Mohammed as the final prophet, but the Bible clearly teaches that God’s full and final revelation is found in Jesus Christ. Hebrews 1:1–2 (NLT) says: "Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son." The Qur’an presents a very different view of Jesus—denying His deity, crucifixion, and resurrection. Yet these truths are at the heart of the Gospel. Without the cross and the resurrection, there is no salvation (1 Corinthians 15:3–4). So, while I respect the sincerity of many Muslims, I cannot accept Mohammed’s messages as coming from the same God who revealed Himself fully in Jesus Christ, because they contradict the Gospel. Regarding the Mormons (Latter-day Saints) - Mormonism also teaches things that are outside of biblical Christianity. They add extra books, claim continuing revelation, and teach that God was once a man and that humans can become gods. This is very different from the truth of Scripture, where God declares, “I am the Lord, and there is no other; there is no God but me” (Isaiah 45:5, NLT). The Central Issue: Jesus Christ - The question is not simply about prophets or messages, but about who Jesus really is. The Bible says Jesus is God in the flesh (John 1:1,14), the only Saviour (John 14:6), who died for our sins and rose again to give eternal life. Any message, religion, or prophet that denies that is leading people away from the only way of salvation. This is not about winning arguments or belittling anyone’s faith. It’s about sharing the truth that saves. I believe both Muslims and Mormons, like all people—including me—are sinners in need of a Saviour. That Saviour is not Mohammed, not Joseph Smith, not religion—it is Jesus Christ alone. Acts 4:12 (NLT): “There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.” So my prayer is that every heart—Muslim, Mormon, atheist, or anyone else—will hear the Good News of Jesus, repent, and trust Him alone for salvation.
