INTRODUCTION:
In a world where people break promises and fail to keep their word, we serve a God who is completely trustworthy. The Bible makes it clear that God cannot lie. His words are true, His promises are sure, and His character is unchanging. This sermon will strengthen our faith in God’s reliability and encourage us to stand firm on His promises.
1. GOD’S WORD IS ABSOLUTELY RELIABLE
Everything God says is established and cannot be changed.
a) God’s Word Is Truth – He speaks only what is true and cannot deceive (John 17:17).
b) His Promises Are Unchanging – His Word stands forever (Isaiah 40:8).
c) His Decrees Are Established – Whatever He declares will surely come to pass (Isaiah 55:11).
d) He Does Not Go Back on His Word – No circumstance can make Him change His mind (Psalm 89:34).
e) Biblical Example:
God’s Promise to Abraham (Genesis 21:1-2) – Even though it took years, God fulfilled His promise of a son.
2. GOD CANNOT LIE BECAUSE HE IS HOLY
Lying is against the very nature of God.
a) God Is Perfect in Holiness – There is no sin or falsehood in Him (Leviticus 11:44).
b) It Is Impossible for God to Lie – His nature does not permit it (Hebrews 6:18).
c) He Is the God of Truth – His words and actions align perfectly (Deuteronomy 32:4).
d) All His Ways Are Just and Righteous – He cannot be false or deceptive (Psalm 145:17).
e) Biblical Example:
Samuel’s Testimony About God (1 Samuel 15:29) – God did not change His mind about Saul's rejection.
3. GOD’S PROMISES ARE YEA AND AMEN
Every promise of God is dependable and will be fulfilled.
a) God’s Promises Are Sure – Not one of His words will fail (Joshua 21:45).
b) All His Promises Are Yes and Amen – They will surely come to pass (2 Corinthians 1:20).
c) God Watches Over His Word to Fulfil It – He ensures that His promises do not fail (Jeremiah 1:12).
d) Even When Situations Change, His Promises Remain – His word is not affected by circumstances (Malachi 3:6).
e) Biblical Example:
God’s Promise to Israel (Exodus 12:40-41) – After 430 years in Egypt, God fulfilled His promise and brought them out.
4. GOD CANNOT LIE ABOUT JUDGMENT AND CONSEQUENCES
Just as His promises are sure, so are His warnings.
a) God Warns Before He Acts – He always gives a chance for repentance (Ezekiel 33:11).
b) His Judgment Is Certain – Whatever He says will happen (Genesis 6:17).
c) He Does Not Overlook Sin – He is a just Judge (Psalm 7:11).
d) He Will Fulfil His Promises of Both Blessings and Punishments – Every word will come to pass (Deuteronomy 28:1-2, 15).
e) Biblical Example:
Noah and the Flood (Genesis 7:10-12) – God’s warning about the flood was fulfilled exactly as He said.
5. OUR FAITH SHOULD BE STRONG BECAUSE GOD CANNOT LIE
Because God is truthful, we can fully trust in Him.
a) Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart – His word is dependable (Proverbs 3:5-6).
b) His Truth Sets Us Free – Believing in His Word brings deliverance (John 8:32).
c) His Faithfulness Endures to All Generations – What He has done before, He will do again (Lamentations 3:22-23).
d) We Can Rest in His Promises – There is no need to fear when God has spoken (Psalm 56:3-4).
e) Biblical Example:
The Fulfilment of Jesus’ Prophecies (Luke 24:6-7) – Jesus’ death and resurrection happened exactly as He had foretold.
CONCLUSION:
God’s inability to lie is the foundation of our faith. Every word He has spoken is true, and every promise will be fulfilled. We must hold onto His Word, trusting that what He has said, He will do.
