Generosity is more than just giving material possessions, it's about giving all we are and have in the Spirit to glorify God. This attitude of giving brings greater glory to God.
Giving is not limited to monetary contributions; it is an attitude that encompasses all aspects of our lives. When we give, we offer everything we have and possess in the Holy Spirit, bringing greater glory to God. Jesus taught us the importance of giving, and in Luke 6:38, He said, "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
Giving begins with the understanding that everything we have comes from God. He is the source, means, and goal of our lives. As Romans 11:35-36 states, "Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them? For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen."
Many people equate success with personal accomplishments, material possessions, and family solidarity. However, true success lies in sacrificial giving, servant-hood, and sharing. Our society often confuses success with worldly measures, but as Christians, we are called to a different standard.
Jesus assures us that when we give generously, we will receive abundantly. Galatians 6:7 says, "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows." If we sow bountifully, we will also reap bountifully. God promises to provide for all our needs according to His riches in glory.
Giving goes beyond money; it encompasses various forms of generosity. We can give friendship, intercessory prayer support, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, self-control, encouragement, and a helping hand. By giving these gifts, we reflect the character of Christ and bring blessings to others.
Sometimes, giving becomes challenging when we have been hurt or face difficult circumstances. However, these are the times when giving becomes even more crucial. By choosing to forgive, give love, and extend grace, we can experience healing and transformation. God can use our tragedies to bring about triumphs if we allow Him.
To give effectively, we need to plan our giving. Just as we plan other aspects of our lives, we should plan our generosity. In 1 Corinthians 16:2, Paul encourages us to set aside a portion of our income regularly. By planning our giving, we ensure consistency and purpose in our generosity.
Our attitude when giving is essential. We should give cheerfully and without expecting anything in return. God loves a cheerful giver who gives out of love and obedience. Our motive for giving is just as important as the gift itself.
Giving is a fundamental aspect of the Christian life. It is an attitude that reflects our love for God and others. When we give generously, sacrificially, and with the right attitude, we can experience the blessings of God in abundance. Let us embrace the attitude of giving and allow God to use us as channels of His love and provision to a world in need.
