"The Faith That Pleases God"
Introduction:
Today, we dive into the inspiring words of Hebrews 11:1-6, a passage that beautifully illustrates the essence of faith.
Faith is a central theme in the Bible, and Hebrews 11 is often called the "Faith Hall of Fame" because it showcases the remarkable faith of many biblical figures.
Point 1: Faith Defined (Hebrews 11:1)
Scripture: Hebrews 11:1 (NLT) - "Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see."
Illustration:
Imagine a child eagerly awaiting Christmas morning, confident that they will receive the gifts they hope for. Faith is like that child's unwavering confidence in the unseen.
Point 2: The Faith of Abel (Hebrews 11:4)
Scripture: Hebrews 11:4 (NLT) - "It was by faith that Abel brought a more acceptable offering to God than Cain did. Abel's offering gave evidence that he was a righteous man, and God showed his approval of his gifts."
Illustration:
Think of two gardeners planting seeds. One plants with care and faith, believing in a fruitful harvest, while the other plants without faith. Abel's faith was like the first gardener's, offering God his best with confidence.
Point 3: Walking with God (Hebrews 11:5-6)
Scripture: Hebrews 11:5-6 (NLT) - "It was by faith that Enoch was taken up to heaven without dying—'he disappeared, because God took him.' For before he was taken up, he was known as a person who pleased God. And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him."

Imagine a lifelong journey where a child walks hand in hand with their parent, trusting in their guidance and love. Enoch's faith was like that child's trust in their parent, walking closely with God, pleasing Him, and experiencing a remarkable destiny.
Point 4: Believing in the Unseen
Faith often involves believing in things we cannot see with our physical eyes.
Illustration:
Picture a bridge spanning a deep chasm. We trust that the bridge will safely carry us across, even though we cannot see the other side. Similarly, faith bridges the gap between the visible and the invisible.
Conclusion:
Hebrews 11:1-6 reminds us that faith is not a passive belief but an active confidence in God's promises. It's the unwavering trust that God rewards those who seek Him diligently.
We can learn from Abel's faith in offering his best, Enoch's faith in walking with God, and the overall message that faith pleases God.
In a world filled with uncertainty, may we anchor our faith in the One who is unchanging, always faithful, and eternally loving.
