"THE COMING OF CHRIST,
THE STORY OF THE BIBLE"
THE BIBLE CAME TO US FROM GOD -- "ALL SCRIPTURE IS GOD BREATHED..." "NO PROPHECY OF SCRIPTURE CAME ABOUT BY THE PROPHETS OWN INTERPRETATION. FOR PROPHECY NEVER HAD ITS ORIGIN IN THE WILL OF MAN BUT MEN SPOKE FROM GOD AS THEY WERE CARRIED ALONG BY THE HOLY SPIRIT...." 1 PETER 1:20,21
THE BIBLE WAS WRITTEN BY OVER 40 MEN CHOSEN BY GOD, IT WAS WRITTEN OVER A SPAN OF 1400 YEARS, IN 3 DIFFERENT LANGUAGES BY MEN LIVING ON 3 DIFFERENT CONTINENTS...
DESPITE CONTAINING DIFFICULT NAMES, STRANGE PLACES, ARCHAIC LANGUAGE, WEIRD CUSTOMS AND A DIFFERENT LITERALLY STYLE THE BIBLE HAS HAD IMMENSE POPULARITY FOR 1,000 OF YEARS...
THE BIBLE WAS THE FIRST BOOK EVER TO BE TRANSLATED INTO ANOTHER LANGUAGE -- THE LXX IN 250 BC....
THE BIBLE IS ALSO THE MOST TRANSLATED BOOK ---
THE ENTIRE BIBLE IS TRANSLATED INTO 270 LANGUAGES (90% OF WORLD’S POPULATIONS).
THE NEW TESTAMENT IS TRANSLATED INTO AN ADDITIONAL 500 LANGUAGES (5% OF WORLD’S POPULATION)....
AND SELECTED BOOKS TRANSLATED INTO AN ADDITIONAL 993 LANGUAGES (3% OF THE WORLD’S POPULATION)...
THE BIBLE IS THE MOST PRINTED BOOK IN HISTORY FROM 1815-1985 OVER 2.5 BILLION COPIES WERE PRINTED AND ABOUT 22 MILLION ARE PRINTED EVERY YEAR...
THE BIBLE CONTAINS 773,692 WORDS; THE ENTIRE BIBLE COULD READ IN 1 YEAR IF YOU READ ~28 MINUTES A DAY.... THE NEW TESTAMENT COULD BE READ IN A YEAR IF YOU READ ~31/2 MINUTES A DAY.
THE BIBLE IS AN AMAZING BOOK -- NO OTHER BOOK IN THE WORLD COMPARES TO IT....
YET SADLY THE BIBLE IS PROBABLY THE MOST NEGLECTED BOOK.... THE BOOK THAT MANY HAVE, BUT FEW "REALLY" READ.
THE STORY IS TOLD OF A PREACHER WHO CAME OVER VISIT UNEXPECTEDLY. WANTING TO MAKE A GOOD IMPRESSION, THE LADY OF THE HOUSE SAID TO HER LITTLE DAUGHTER, "PLEASE RUN AND GET THE GOOD BOOK WE ALL LOVE SO MUCH AND BRING IT HERE.."
THE DAUGHTER TOTTERED OFF AND THEN RETURNED IN A MINUTE WITH A TRIUMPHANT LOOK ON HER FACE AND THE SEARS CATALOGUE IN HER HANDS!
WHY DO MANY NOT READ THE BIBLE -- WELL, SOME JUST DON’T WANT TO... BUT MANY OTHERS I THINK DON’T READ IT BECAUSE IT SEEMS SO INTIMIDATING.... WHERE DO I START? HOW DOES IT ALL FIT TOGETHER? TO UNDERSTAND THE BIBLE AND MANY OTHER DETAILED THINGS IN LIFE IT IS ESSENTIAL TO KNOW AND UNDERSTAND THE BIG PICTURE... AND WE FIND THAT ONCE WE UNDERSTAND THE BIG PICTURE THEN DETAILED THINGS ARE MUCH EASIER TO UNDERSTAND...
DOES THE BIBLE HAVE A "BIG PICTURE" IT CERTAINLY DOES, YOU SEE THOUGH THE BIBLE HAS 66 DIFFERENT BOOKS -- IT IS REALLY ONLY 3 CHAPTERS.... ALL REVOLVING AROUND 1 CENTRAL AND POWERFUL THEME
THE COMING OF CHRIST
The Bible is God’s Word and it is exciting, it is emotional, it’s pages are full of anticipation, because the message of the Bible is the coming of Christ.
Today, we are going to survey the entire bible and watch it’s great message unfold.
And as we do, our hearts will beat with Adam, Abraham, Isaiah and all those of the OT, as we anticipate the coming of Christ our Redeemer. And our anticipation will turn to realization, in the Gospels as we sit with the disciples at the feet of Jesus. Then we will join with all those who are in Christ, who eagerly wait his coming again.... to take us home to those glorious mansion in heaven. THE BIBLE IS THE STORY OF THE COMING OF CHRIST!!
I. THE MESSAGE OF THE OLD TESTAMENT IS CHRIST IS COMING!
IN GENESIS HIS COMING IS REVEALED
The reason I say that Christ coming is revealed in Genesis is because Christ coming was planned before Genesis. In Revelation 13:8 we read that Christ was slain before creation. Before God created the world, before he create man - God already had planned on sending Christ. Christ crucifiction on the cross was God’s idea before the beginning -- (and not a mistake as many end time prophets of today believe).
In the beginning God created the World and everything in it. He created Adam and Eve, and put them in charge of the garden. Adam and Eve lived in a garden paradise -- they had an intimate and close relationship with God, as God walked with them in the Garden. They had only one restriction, one command -- And that was not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Well you know the rest of the story -- they were tempted and deceived by Satan who appeared to them in the form of a serpent, they blew it -- they disobeyed God -- they sinned.
And in Genesis 3:15 we find what many call, "the Gospel in the garden." Gen 3:15
