SERIES; UNDERTANDING THE ANOINTING

READING; John 10;31-42 John11;1-45

Before we proceed with this teaching, I would like to bring to your attention that anointing attracts trouble!

Examples

a.David

1 Samuel 16:13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah

1 Samuel 18:9 And Saul eyed David from that day and forward….Vs11 And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice.

b.Paul

Philippians 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

Paul was flogged (five times), beaten, stoned, shipwrecked, imprisoned, and deserted;

c.Jesus

(Hebrews 5:8)Though He were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered. . .

Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,Vs:19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Vs:20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

Vs:21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.Vs:22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?

Vs:23 And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country. 4:24 And he said, Verily, I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.

Vs:28 And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, Vs:29 And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong. Vs:30 But he passing through the midst of them went his way,

John 10:31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him…..vs:39 therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand,….Vs 40 And went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first baptized; and there he abode.

d.Christians

Psalms 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

The good news is that, no weapon fashioned against me shall prosper

I can boldly confess that

Psalms 27:1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?..... vs:2 When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

Vs:3 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.

Vs:4 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple.

Vs:5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.

Psalms 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want…. Vs:2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

Vs:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake……Vs:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Vs:5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Vs:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Read Psalms 91;1-16

We learnt from our previous lesson (THE COMPONENETS OF THE ANOINTING) that One of the components of the anointing is myrrh, (Ex. 30:22-24).

The Lord gave Moses a very detailed recipe for the anointing oil The anointing oil consists of four principle ingredients mixed with olive oil, which was the fifth component.
