Studies In Genesis: Chapters 6 - 9 Series

Genesis 6

1*. And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,

2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they

[were] fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

Sons of God are probably those in the line of Seth. The daughters of men were probably of the line of Cain. What happened is these begin to intermingle and marry. And the sons of God became preoccupied with evil and lost the sight of God. This is why God tells us not to intermarry. Usually the good turns to the bad. What happens when you put a rotten apple in with good apples if it stays long enough then all is infested.

3. And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with

man, for that he also [is] flesh: yet his days shall be an

hundred and twenty years.

This is believed to be how long Noah preached. For one hundred and twenty years he preached and warned the people of God but they would not listen

This goes along with 1 Peter 3:19, 20 where it is believed that Noah was used of God and Christ to preach repentance. It says in 1 Peter 1:20,21 that the Holy Spirit was the one who spoke through the prophets.

4. There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after

that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and

they bare [children] to them, the same [became] mighty men which

[were] of old, men of renown.

5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man [was] great in the

earth, and [that] every imagination of the thoughts of his heart

[was] only evil continually.

Let us go back to Genesis 1:31

We see here that when these sons of God mixed with the daughters of men then it caused the whole world to be wicked. How wicked?

wickedness of man was great in the earth

every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually

The world was so bad that wickedness was great. This is not just sin but it is gross and immorral sin. It is terrible sin. Wickedness. This is evil sin. And this covered all the thoughts and imaginations of the people. Continually. all the time all they could think about was sin sin sin.

6. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth,

and it grieved him at his heart.

7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created

from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping

thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have

made them.

The world was so bad that God regretted that he ever created it. He was disappointed in it. So bad that he wished he never created it. Do you think that God thinks the same thing today? Do you see these same actions today?

8. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

Put praise the Lord there was one that God found favor in. One person. Why?

9 These [are] the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man

[and] perfect in his generations, [and] Noah walked with God.

Let us read Hebrews 11:7-AV By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not

seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

Hebrews 11:1-AV Now faith is the substance of things hoped for,

the evidence of things not seen.

So because Noah walked with God and had faith in what God said.

10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

11. The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was

filled with violence.

12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt;

for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

Not only was just the mind and heart but all of man was corrupt and there was only one solution.

How did the world get so bad? compromise. Whenever the people of God mix with the people of men then to have good ties there must be compromise on the part of the people of God. The people of men will not compormise but some people of men will. So when you compromise then there is no stopping point.
