Series: Sharing the Harvest PT 2! (SPIRITUAL)

• Ann – Mentoring others spiritually!

Thesis: The Bible teaches us that we need to share the harvest financially, physically by discipling and mentoring others for the Kingdom of Heaven. But in the process of discipleship we share the harvest spiritually as well. We should desire to invest our time. talents, spiritual wisdom and knowledge into another person for the Lord. Especially since we have been blessed by God to bless others!

Scripture:

Matthew 16:24-27 - New International Version

24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save their life (soul) will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. 26 What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul (life)? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul (life)? 27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.

Matthew 28:18-20 - New International Version

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 9:35-38: The Workers Are Few

35Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.

36When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.

38Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

This has been my prayer over the last few months that God would send us workers for the harvest here at CHC! If we understand the importance that our lives are to count for eternity! Then we should desire to invest in others spiritually!

Summary of the series:

For those in Biblical times, the harvest was the most important event. The gathering of things planted, a natural time of reaping in joy what has been sown and produced during the year. In addition to the literal use of the word referring to the harvesting of crops, the Bible uses the same term when referring to the rescuing of the remains of Israel, the resurrection of believers from the earth and leading people into a relationship with Jesus Christ.

God did make guidelines for bringing in the Harvest in the Bible:

In the Bible it was expected of those who follow God to provide for the poor, the needy and even for the foreigners. They were reminded repeatedly that it is God who sends the rains and the sun at the right time to bring in the abundant harvest they are reaping. Because the Lord brought these blessing’s they needed to share their harvest with others.

For example: listen to Leviticus 23:22: “‘When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the LORD your God.’”

Deut. 24:19-22: “19When you are harvesting in your field and you overlook a sheaf, do not go back to get it. Leave it for the alien, the fatherless and the widow, so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. 20When you beat the olives from your trees, do not go over the branches a second time. Leave what remains for the alien, the fatherless and the widow. 21When you harvest the grapes in your vineyard, do not go over the vines again. Leave what remains for the alien, the fatherless and the widow. 22Remember that you were slaves in Egypt. That is why I command you to do this.”

Sharing the Harvest is a Command of the Lord – it is not just a nice suggestion, or an option but it’s to be an action we do to honor God! It also is to be done to acknowledge we too were in the position of need once and God blessed us! So, Scripture tells us we too must pass the blessings from God onto others so they too can be blessed by the Kingdom of Heaven.
