So often when we read similar texts, the father is named first. But, in this case perhaps the Lord placed the mother first to show her importance to the family unit.

MOTHER’S DAY EXHORTATION Leviticus 19:3 Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths: I am the LORD your God. 1. GOD HONORS MOTHERS In most places, when God speaks relating to parents in the Bible, we usually hear about the father first. However, God speaking to the ...read more

Contributed by Byron Perrine on Apr 22, 2020
     | 1,005 views

Para gran parte de lo siguiente, con la excepción de las secciones que tratan sobre la ley natural y su relación con el cristianismo, estoy en deuda con las conferencias de Beth Cabrera, The Great Courses Plus.com.

This is Part 12 in a 14-part series of studies I call “The Christian Character” as described by in what is familiarly known as the “Sermon on the Mount.” In this part, we examine Jesus teaching about laying up treasures, the eye as the lamp of the body, and the impossibility of serving two masters.

Contributed by Byron Perrine on Jul 9, 2019
     | 2,302 views

With the exception of those sections dealing with “natural law” and its relationship to Christianity, I am indebted to the lectures of Beth Cabrera, The Great Courses Plus.com regarding the contributions of "positive psychology" to the field of management.

(If you have found this sermon helpful, please visit us at www.HeritageRestorationProject.org or www.ChristianWisdom.info) In Ephesians 6:5-9, we read that servants are to be obedient to masters. Presumably today this applies to employees and other workers. They are to be obedient to whatever ...read more

  • Addressing The Realities Of Life Series

Contributed by Ed Vasicek on Mar 23, 2015
     | 7,199 views

Being human is generally a good thing. The temptation in our day is to manipulate or engineer human nature and deny its realities. But a church is about real people, redeemed by Jesus, but fully human — even more human — because of that redemption.

Addressing the Realities of Life (I Timothy 5:1-16) 1. Some people have a sanitized view of life. Life, however, is often less glamourous. 'Cash, check or charge?' I asked, after folding items the woman wished to purchase. As she fumbled for her wallet, I noticed a remote control for a ...read more

  • The Makings Of A Good Dad

Contributed by Derrick Tuper on Jun 19, 2017
     | 12,581 views

For Mother's Day my sermon was, "The Makings of A Good Mom" so it's only fitting that I do the same for Father's Day. Quote: "It only takes a minute to be a father but it takes a lifetime to be a dad." What are some things that make a good dad?

THE MAKINGS OF A GOOD DAD Contrast between TV dads of the 50's and those of today. Back then Dad was portrayed as the leader, the guider; he was admired. Today, dads are portrayed as inept, clueless and irresponsible. Modern-day TV oftentimes portrays the dad as being more like an additional ...read more

  • Caring For The Elderly

Contributed by Leo Samuel D G on Sep 15, 2017
    based on 1 rating

Caring for elders is not easy. But taking care of old age parents is a sweet experience because no other human has loved us like they did. God wants us to love and take care of them irrespective of whether or not they ‘deserve’ it.

Need for caring for parents: A young couple was making great sacrifices for the upbringing of their child. A neighbour, who saw their deeds, asked them, “Will he take care of you when you are old?” Many of us, who are young adults, would have come across such a question in our life. But have we ...read more

  • Why Does The Government Do More Than The Church To Help The Poor? Series

Contributed by Jim Butcher on Jun 26, 2015
     | 5,379 views

This passage on the care of widows opens up a larger question: what's the place the church should have in the care of the poor (versus the place the government should have)?

THE POINT OF THE PASSAGE: Taking care of the needy widows was a big deal in the early church. - There was a different societal structure and a lack of social safety net back then. The church stepped in to help. - Unpack some of the passage. - The passage raises a more general question: why ...read more

Contributed by Derrick Tuper on Jun 22, 2020

For Mother's day I listed some traits that defined Mom. Now it's Dad's turn. On Mother's Day I said although these traits define Mom, Dad can have them too. Likewise, the ones I'll be highlighting for Dad can be seen in Moms too, they're just more characteristic of Dads.

DEFINING DAD For the Mother's day sermon I listed some characteristics that defined Mom. Now it's Dad's turn. I mentioned in my Mother's Day sermon that although these characteristics define Mom, that doesn't mean that Dad doesn't have those characteristics too, they're ...read more
