As one abides in Christ, only then can he or she bear fruit that will last. Like the vine in John 15, it is only as we stay connected to Christ that Christ will bring about fruit in us and through us for His glory.

Jesus had not come to be an earthly, military king who would free the Jews from Rome. He came for something greater. He came to free mankind from themselves, the slavery of sin, and an eternity separated from God. He came as a servant and bids us to do the same.

The Jews longed for freedom from the Romans. They desired too little. They were too easily satisfied. They wanted freedom in the present from sinful men when the King had come who would forgive their sin and grant them eternity. The true King had come.
