Watchful

(2 Tim 4:5 KJV) But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

In this sermon out line we try to encourage the children of God to be watchful in all things. We do not want be as the those who should have been praying to be found sleeping. The enemy will try to take advantage of us if we are not careful and try to rob us of much of the blessings of the Lord. I am reminded by Jesus in John 10:10 that the devil would like to rob us at every opportunity. John 10:10 (KJV) The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

I. We should we be watching? At times when we least expect the enemy to attack us.

A. Paul told Timothy to watch at all times.

1. Jesus said to Watch and Pray.

(Mat 26:41 KJV) Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak

a. If the Holy Spirit leads us there is less chance we will enter into temptation.

b. Our flesh is weak. It want to only do it own thing.

c. The enemy comes in when we are week. We are week when we do not pray and wait on God.

d. Jesus said: (Mark 13:33 KJV) Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

II. Watch your desires.

(1 Pet 2:2 KJV) As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

A: Desire Word of God. When we are living in the Word we will be over comers.

1. God watches over His Word. Psalms 119:11 (KJV) Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

2. If the Word is in our heart not only will God watch over His Word but we will do the same

3. If we keep the Word in our hearts, God will do what His Word says He will do.

(Jer 1:12 KJV) Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

a. To Understand God and His Word, we must know Word of God.

1. We then can trust God’s Word.

III. Desire Spiritual Gifts.

(1 Cor 14:1 KJV) Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.

A. Chapter 12 and 14 is like the Milk, Bread and 13th Chapter of 1 Cor. is the meat. The Word causes Love to grow in our hearts and Love is the greatest of all.

IV. Desire a Heavenly Habitation.

A. Desire Heaven.

1. If you desire heaven you need to get ready by taking on its likeness and traits.

B. One day if we have desire Him we will able with the Lord forever.

(2 Cor 5:1 KJV) For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

(2 Cor 5:2 KJV) For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:

V. Watch and desire God’s direction.

(Prov 16:9 KJV) A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

(Eph 4:17 KJV) This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

A. Paul tells us how to walk in Ephesians 6 times.

(Eph 2:10 KJV) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

(Eph 4:1 KJV) I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

(Eph 4:17 KJV) This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

(Eph 5:2 KJV) And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

(Eph 5:8 KJV) For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

(Eph 5:15 KJV) See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

VI. Watch your Doctrine. (1 Tim 4:13 KJV) Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine

(2 Tim 3:16 KJV) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

A. Doctrine gives us reproof, correction and instruction.

B. This is enough to encourage us to ’WATCH AND PRAY’
