The King of Nineveh took off his robe and put on sackcloth and sat in ashes to signify his humble repentance before the Almighty God. There is nothing God can’t do with a repentant church and true revival will break forth when this happens.

The King of Nineveh humbled himself before God because he understood that God is sovereign. There are many others in the bible who recognized God’s sovereignty and submitted to His will. Only those who recognize and acknowledge God’s sovereignty can joyfully accept His dealings in their lives.

Jonah was happy to receive God’s forgiveness for his disobedience, but was unhappy when God did the same for the people of Nineveh who repented of their sins. Jesus paid with his life for our forgiveness, and God expects us to extend this same forgiveness to those who wrong us in any way.
