The intention of the question of our "case in point" (Luke 20:27-40) was designed by those who composed it to make a fool of Jesus. It backfired. The scripture tells us that when Jesus answered that question, no one dared to ask Him any other questions.

SADDUCEES SADLY MISTAKEN Text: Luke 20:27-40 Bruce Larson made the comment that the question that the Sadducees posed to Jesus was a test that was designed to determine whether or not He was a conservative or a liberal. Although the Bible doesn’t call it a “gift basket” it does use the word “gifts” in connection with our Savior’s ascension into heaven. Because of Jesus' ascension we receive many gifts. In Luke's account of the ascension we notice three.

We call them “gift baskets.” They might be for holidays like Christmas or Easter. Or they may be given for someone’s birthday, or perhaps an anniversary. Now as you think of gift baskets what makes them different from other gifts? Although perhaps you can think of many more things that make ...read more

A lesson from Luke 9:37-43a is to never give up doing something for God. Like the disciples we may need for training or education to accomplish the task. Evangelism is one of the most difficult things to do. However, with training it is not that bad. Afterall, it is for God

  • Teach Us To Pray Series

Contributed by Joel Gilbert on Aug 11, 2025
     | 225 views

Following a time of prayer, one of Jesus' disciples asked Him to teach them how to pray. Luke records an abbreviated version of the Lord's prayer and then includes elements that encourage us to be bold in our prayer, promising provision and presence from God.

Over the last couple of sections of Luke’s gospel, we’ve considered the importance of loving God with all that we are and loving others. We’ve also reflected on the value of sitting before Jesus in order to just be with Him and learn before we get in to the practice of serving. It seems like in ...read more
