Proverbs 31:10-31

How fitting it is to Honor Mothers

Motherhood was crowned with God’s approval in Eden (Genesis 1:28)

Jesus chose to be born of a woman (Luke 1:30-35/Galatians 4:4-5)

Advice is offered for a King in choosing a wife

Choose a woman of virtue

Choose a woman who will be a priceless wife and mother

Who is this Priceless Woman?

I. She is a Faithful Woman (vv. 11-19)

a. She is faithful to her husband

i. She knows he can trust her (v. 11)

ii. Her life goal is to do him good (v. 12)

b. She is faithful in her daily duties (vv. 13-14)

i. She is dependable

ii. She is a hard worker

c. She manages her time to her family’s advantage (vv. 15-19)

i. She rises early and cares for her home and family

ii. “She takes pains in her duties and takes pleasure in them” (Matthew Henry)

II. She is a Caring Woman (vv. 20-25)

a. She cares about the needs of the poor

b. She reaches out to the need (serves them, helps them)

c. She prepares for any future difficulty facing her family

i. She makes sure her children are clothed for winter

ii. She sees that her home is an attractive place to live

d. She cares about her husband’s reputation

i. He is respected by his peers because of her efforts

ii. He is held in high esteem because he has chosen such a good wife

III. She is a Wise Woman (vv. 26-27)

a. “She openeth her mouth with wisdom”

i. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” Psalms 111:10

ii. “The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom” Proverbs 15:33

b. Here is a woman who trusts God and instructs her family to do so

c. This wise woman has a mouth filled with praise

i. “It will always be wise to praise our glorious Lord” Spurgeon

ii. She wisely finds reasons to praise while other women pout

d. Kindness flows from the lips of this wise woman

i. “In her tongue is the law of kindness”

ii. She speaks kindly to her husband, her children & others

There are valuable rewards for a priceless woman (v. 28)

Her children rise up and call her blessed

Her husband praises her

Women of Faith Reap the blessings of God (vv. 30-31)
