Our Lord uses bread as a metaphor when the Disciples forget to bring some. This is to get them to open their spiritual eyes and see Who they are dealing with. They failed to understand that Jesus Christ was and is the Bread of Life.

He Brought Me Out Of The Miry Clay

The “miry clay” represents situations that are sticky, messy, and hard to escape. It symbolises spiritual bondage, emotional turmoil, and moral failure. But God does not abandon His people in such states. He inclines His ear to us, hears our cry, and lifts us out with His mighty hand.
