Joshua said, as for me and my house we will serve the Lord. The people responded; we will serve the Lord. OK says Joshua, then throw away everything and anything that stands as a hindrance to serving God and yield your heart to God (Joshua 24:23). The people followed God as long as Joshua lived.

Joshua calls them to make a deliberate choice-- for Yahweh, or other elohim. And he warns them, they will fail, and God's wrath will come. That said, he and his family will serve Yahweh.
