Jonah was a prophet of God, but he did not understand the loving heart of God towards a repentant people. The heart of Moses as a leader of the Israelites and the forgiving heart of Jesus are the best examples of how a Christian leader should love and care for the people under his or her care.

Jonah freely accepted God’s mercy but wanted God’s judgement to be given the people of Nineveh. God’s word reminds us that it is not our prerogative to judge others, but rather to be merciful to them, just as God is merciful to us.
