Shepherds were known for their devotion to the sheep in their care. This parable illustrates Jesus's love for us as the shepherd of our souls who laid down His life for us. His sheep follow Him because they know His voice.

Of the numerous images of Jesus painted by John in his Gospel, probably the most descriptive is that of the Good Shepherd (John 10). Like a shepherd, Jesus is concerned with the welfare and care of His flock, showing His never changing love and compassion.

The Lord Jesus Christ is The True Shepherd of the sheep. He came as The Seeking Shepherd who would die for the sins of the world. Each one He seeks and saves, He then adds that one to His sheepfold where he cares for them all and leads them in love.
