Jesus was not a hired hand, one seeking get paid, to just complete a job. He was willing to lay down his life for us, for his sheep. Our Lord is the Good Sheppard. Seek The "Kalos", Sheppard.

We are called on to continue Jesus’s work. We are called on to be shepherds, witnesses of God’s love. We are to be there for each other. We are to care for and support one another. We must put ourselves in the path of evil when necessary.

John 10:11-18 is part of a longer discourse in which Jesus tells his disciples and us that he is the way to heaven and eternal life. Jesus Watches Over Us

Jesus referred to himself as the good shepherd so that the people would know what he was talking about. Jesus was preaching in Palestine, and sheep were quite common in that area. Sheep are not very smart though. They were easy prey for wild animals.
