  • Christmas Trivia Series

Contributed by Glenn Pease on Apr 8, 2021
     | 2,191 views

We are to live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God, but sometimes they seem so trivial we tend to ignore them. Christmas trivia is a good example. Dr. Luke was a man of detail, and he records for us a number of things that can be called Christmas trivia.

One of the great paradoxes of Christmas is that almost everything the Bible tells us about this most sacred event, is secular in nature. It is filled with what is temporal rather than eternal; physical rather than spiritual; and world oriented rather than heaven oriented. Christmas is really a ...read more

  • Let Justice Run Down

Contributed by D. Dewaine Phillips on Apr 15, 2021

In Amos' time, justice and righteousness no longer prevailed in Israel; but rather, it had become wormwood. Wormwood is toxic, so Israel was dealing with a toxic justice system - but God was going to bring justice!

In Amos 5:24, we read, “Let justice run down like water, and righteousness like a mighty stream!” This is a verse that probably resonates with us all. We all desire justice! I read some Christian articles that predicted the year 2020 to be “the year of justice,” but I doubt anyone who made these ...read more

Christmas: Prophecy is "encouraging" when it speaks of future blessing. The fulfillment of prophecy can "increase our faith." This messianic prophecy will both encourage us and strengthen our faith in God's love for the world.

This morning, we’re going to examine a passage from the book of Micah that relates to the Christmas season; and I’ve entitled our message, “A Ruler Called Peace.” “Micah [prophesied] during the reigns of four kings in Israel and three kings in Judah. He probably wondered, as he watched the parade ...read more

Malachi proclaims the sinful condition of the Jews, warns of God’s judgment, and promises relief in the coming of the Savior. We want to look at the story Jesus told about a youth who learned the hard way. It is often called the parable of the Prodigal Son, but it could just as rightly be called the parable of the Faithful Father.

The main social event of the year in many Sunday Schools is the summer picnic. William Porkess was in an English Sunday School that was granted permission by an Earl to have a picnic on his large estate. How excited they all were as they were being carried to the estate by horse and ...read more

  • The Pain Of Idolatry

    based on 1 rating

Some people spend their lives propping up dumb idols that consume their time and resources. This message tackles the golden hemorrhoids account and shows how idolatry can be a real pain. We must give it to God to receive healing.

This morning we’re going to look at a passage of Scripture that I have struggled with for many years; one that I have read time and again, and I couldn’t figure out how to apply it spiritually. It’s probably one that many of you have read before and came away feeling perplexed. But lately the Lord ...read more

What would we do if our country ever came under siege by a foreign nation that did not believe in God? How could we practice our faith, and how could we live according to biblical principles?

I have entitled our message this morning “Serving in Captivity,” as we’ll be examining the events surrounding the Babylonian captivity of 587 B.C. What would we, as believers, do if our country ever came under siege by a foreign nation that did not believe in God or His Son, Jesus Christ? How ...read more

The term bouncing back comes from having suffered through something but not letting it stop you from continuing on. There are many great bounce back stories in the bible. Today we'll look at the example of Joseph, son of Jacob.

Life circumstances may not be ideal where we are. We may be struggling. Perhaps we feel that we could serve the Lord more effectively in a better situation or different location. But God wants us to bloom where we are planted!

James Oppenheim said, “The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance, the wise grows it under his feet,”(1) and this is what the Lord wants every believer to understand. We’re supposed to find fulfillment and contentment right where God’s placed us, and to bloom where we’re planted. An ...read more
