  • Words Have Power/ Don’t Babel

Contributed by Amiri Hooker on Jun 4, 2022
     | 2,402 views

We all grow as disciples of Jesus Christ, enlarging our understanding of the church and the faith. And then maybe we can overcome Babel by speaking one in Christ on this Pentecost Sunday.

This text is offered as an alternative First Reading for the Day of Pentecost, with the instructions that if it is chosen, then Acts 2:1-21 gets used as the Second Reading. Certainly, there have been connections made between Genesis 11:1-9 and Acts 2:1-21, with people understanding God’s gift of ...read more

Skeptics have scoffed at the account of the Tower of Babel calling it a myth or a "nonsensical legend." Is that true? There are now four areas of history and science that confirm the reality of the Tower of Babel. The Bible is true after all!

PROOFS THE TOWER OF BABEL ACCOUNT IS TRUE Gen. 11:1-9 INTRODUCTION A. HUMOR: Husbands & Wives don’t speak same language! 1. Peter was reading an article out loud to his wife. “Did you know that women use about 30,000 words a day, whereas men only use 15,000 words?” 2. Victoria replied, “The ...read more

Contributed by Christopher Holdsworth on Mar 28, 2016
    based on 7 ratings

Babel speaks of "confusion", and is a byword for all that is wrong with the world. Only Pentecost could bring order.

A PATH FROM BABEL TO PENTECOST. Genesis 11:1-9. The height of our tallest building does not necessarily impress God: He has to “come down” even to see it (Genesis 11:5). Babel - to the Babylonians - spoke of ‘the gateway to the gods’: and yet man was there found still aspiring to get where he ...read more

These are thoughts on Genesis Chapter Eleven. In his work, "What does every Bible chapter say..." John Hunt gives an overview of each chapter of the Bible. It is my intention to do the same thing here.

GENESIS CHAPTER ELEVEN OVERVIEW Overall what is happening in this chapter is the story of the Tower of Babel is built and the linage up to Abram. Thomas Coke (1801) – Genesis 11 Men begin to build the city and tower of Babel: God confounds their language: and disperses them over all the earth. ...read more

  • "nimrod's Folly"

Contributed by John Huyser on Sep 5, 2023
     | 2,434 views

From Sunday School I remember vividly all sorts of lessons on The Tower of Babel. I think almost all of them missed the mark. The issue is far less the Tower of Babel - in fact the tower is a symptom of humanity wanting to do their own thing without God. Jesus came down to reverse that.

It was a moment of folly, a church in Northwest Iowa prefers to forget. Busting at the seams, they broke ground on a new building in the early eighties. Their sanctuary and parking lot would double in size. Featured too were a large kitchen and fellowship hall and many a classroom and extra ...read more

  • Passing Through Series

Contributed by Gordon Pike on Aug 8, 2021
     | 3,424 views

The "crisis" at the border is not a Republican or Democrat problem, a conservative or liberal, progressive or libertarian problem … it is a “human” problem … and my goal today is to get you to stop thinking of this as a political issue and start looking at it from a Christian perspective.

Since this service started, 60 immigrants have showed up at our southern border. By the end of this service, 190 more will have joined them. Roughly 250 people show up at our southern border every day in the hopes of either legally or illegally entering our country. We have a big problem. ...read more

  • The Gift Of Tongues

Contributed by Alison Bucklin on Mar 17, 2023
     | 1,463 views

The confusion of tongues God visited on his people at the tower of Babel is reversed at Pentecost.

I have to begin this sermon with a confession. I have a weakness for puns. One or two of you may have noticed it, and as faults go it’s not as bad as some. But this week, I have to admit, I gave into temptation. The title of this sermon is a pun. Because I’m not going to talk about what most ...read more

  • Babel And Our Nation

Contributed by I. Grant Spong on Apr 19, 2022
     | 1,418 views

Love of country is good, unless it excludes love of God or non-citizen neighbors. The sin of placing our name above others is the same attitude as existed at the tower of Babel. How is the tower of Babel still relevant today?

Love of country is good, unless it excludes love of God. Love of country is good, unless it excludes love of non-citizen neighbors. The sin of self-centered national pride, of placing our name above others is the same attitude as existed at the tower of Babel. Such arrogant self-importance ...read more

  • Zechariah's Seventh Vision: Wickedness Removed Series

Contributed by Richard Tow on May 16, 2022
     | 3,008 views

This vision of a woman in a basket constitutes a promise from God to His people to remove wickedness from their midst. The previous vision (#6) was about removing individual rebels. This vision is the removal of the wicked system energizing sin.

Today we come to one of the strangest passages in Scripture. It is recorded in Zechariah 5:5-11. Here Zechariah sees a vision of a basket, a woman in the basket, and two women with wings carrying the basket to Babylon. What does the basket represent? What about the woman in the basket? Are the two ...read more
