In 1765, Joseph Grigg (1720-1768) of England wrote the wonderful words of the song "Jesus and Shall It Ever Be," which proposes several answers to the question, "Ashamed of Jesus?" The answers are various ways of saying "I will never be ashamed of him!"

The Cleft Of The Rock

The analogy of Christ to a rock has its roots in Scripture. There are numerous Old Testament references to the Lord as a "Rock" or "Rock of my salvation." Or as one of our songs, drawn from Psalm 18 says, “The Lord liveth, and blessed be the Rock.”

If the body of Jesus had decayed into dust within the borrowed tomb, we would not be singing the songs of Easter. They thought It was a tragic end to the “One” who had raised the dead. Tears told the sadness in their hearts. Resurrection shatters the grip of fear.
