1 Samuel 8:7-8 (Amplified Bible)

And the Lord said to Samuel, Hearken to the voice of the people in all they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not be King over them.

According to all the works which they have done since I brought them up out of Egypt even to this day, forsaking Me and serving other gods, so they also do to you.

1 Samuel 15:22 (Amplified Bible)

Samuel said, Has the Lord as great a delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

VIII. MAIN BODY:

Ezekiel 18:4 (Amplified Bible)

18:4 Behold, all souls are Mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is Mine; the soul that sins, it shall die.

Romans 6:23 (Amplified Bible)

6:23 For the wages which sin pays is death, but the [bountiful] free gift of God is eternal life through (in union with) Jesus Christ our Lord.

Our relationship with the LORD JESUS is the only thing in this world that can save us from hell, and it's all personal and private. It was not mentioned but the sons of Samuel might be trusting in Samuel's holiness and being near with GOD, but it's not. It's for own soul's sake that you come to the LORD and it will not cover your family, your sons and even your relatives. Your family and other family members need to know the LORD personally and accept Him as Lord and Savior of their lives in a personal basis.

Illustration: Parents of a priest were glad because their son is a priest so that their son will save them from purgatory. But the problem is there's no purgatory.

A. Samuel's sons did not walk in Samuel's ways

"His sons did not walk in his ways,"

First example is Absalom: Absalom fought with his father King David long before he was seated on the throne, and he got the throne by robbery and oppression.

2 Samuel 15:4 (Amplified Bible)

15:4 Absalom added, Oh, that I were judge in the land! Then every man with any suit or cause might come to me and I would do him justice!

Leviticus 25:43 (Amplified Bible)

25:43 You shall not rule over him with harshness (severity, oppression), but you shall [reverently] fear your God.

Good leaders in the Bible but epic failed (failure as a father):

1. Samuel

2. King David

1 Samuel 8:3 (Amplified Bible)

8:3 His sons did not walk in his ways, but turned aside after gain, took bribes, and perverted justice.

3. King Saul

2 Samuel 1:4 (Amplified Bible)

1:4 David said to him, How did it go? Tell me. He answered, The men have fled from the battle. Many have fallen and are dead; Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.

4. Gideon

Judges 8:30-33 (Amplified Bible)

8:30 Now Gideon had seventy sons born to him, for he had many wives.

8:31 And his concubine, who was in Shechem, also bore him a son, whom he named Abimelech.

8:32 Gideon son of Joash died at a good old age and was buried in the tomb of Joash his father in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

8:33 As soon as Gideon was dead, the Israelites turned again and played the harlot after the Baals and made Baal-berith their god.
