INTRODUCTION:

The world is rapidly changing, and many have abandoned the old paths of righteousness for modern alternatives that do not align with God’s will. In Jeremiah 6:16, God calls His people to return to the ancient path, the good way, where they will find rest for their souls. This message challenges us to examine our walk with God and ensure we are following His ordained path rather than worldly trends.

1. THE MEANING OF THE ANCIENT PATH

a) The ancient path is the way of holiness (Isaiah 35:8)

The path God calls us to is a path of righteousness, where sin has no place.

b) It is the way of obedience (Deuteronomy 5:33)

Walking in the ancient path means living in full obedience to God’s commandments.

c) It is the path of truth (John 14:6)

Jesus Himself is the way, the truth, and the life; following Him means walking in the ancient path.

d) It is the path of faith (Hebrews 11:6)

The heroes of faith in the Bible walked in the ancient path, trusting in God completely.

e) Biblical Example: Abraham’s obedience to God (Genesis 12:1-4)

Abraham followed God’s instructions without question, walking in the ancient path of faith and obedience.

2. SIGNS THAT MANY HAVE LEFT THE ANCIENT PATH

a) Compromising God’s standards (Judges 2:10-12)

Many today have turned away from God’s truth in favour of worldly practices.

b) Neglecting prayer and the Word (Joshua 1:8)

A lack of devotion to prayer and Bible study is a sign of deviation from God’s way.

c) Seeking human wisdom over God’s wisdom (1 Corinthians 1:25)

When people rely on human understanding instead of God’s wisdom, they drift from the ancient path.

d) Embracing sinful lifestyles (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

Many prefer teachings that suit their desires rather than the truth of God’s Word.

e) Biblical Example: The prodigal son (Luke 15:11-17)

He left his father’s house for a life of pleasure but later realised the need to return to the right path.

3. HOW TO RETURN TO THE ANCIENT PATH

a) Genuine repentance (Acts 3:19)

Turning away from sin and seeking God’s forgiveness is the first step back to the right path.

b) Renewing our commitment to God’s Word (Psalm 119:105)

The Bible must be our daily guide, directing our steps.

c) Seeking godly counsel (Proverbs 11:14)

Surrounding ourselves with people who uphold godly values will help us stay on the right path.

d) Walking by the Spirit (Galatians 5:16-17)

The Holy Spirit empowers us to remain steadfast in the path of righteousness.

e) Biblical Example: King Josiah’s revival (2 Kings 22:1-13)

Josiah led Israel back to the right path by restoring the reading of God’s law and removing idolatry.

4. BLESSINGS OF WALKING IN THE ANCIENT PATH

a) Divine direction (Isaiah 30:21)

Those who walk in God’s way receive clear guidance from Him.

b) Rest for the soul (Matthew 11:28-29)

Following God’s path brings peace and spiritual rest.

c) Protection from destruction (Psalm 91:1-4)

God preserves those who abide in His ways.

d) Eternal rewards (Matthew 7:13-14)

The narrow path leads to eternal life with Christ.

e) Biblical Example: Noah’s faithfulness (Genesis 6:8-22)

Noah walked in obedience to God and was saved from destruction.

CONCLUSION:

God is calling His people to return to the ancient path—the way of holiness, truth, and faith. In a world filled with distractions and deceptions, we must be intentional about staying on the right path. The blessings of walking in God’s way far outweigh the temporary pleasures of the world.
