A. These Are Words of Regret

1. Pilate had made a wrong decision

2. He had been put to life’s greatest test and failed

3. He had allowed others to influence him wrongly

4. He had chosen to please the crowd instead of Jesus

5. There was no way he could undo his wrong decision

6. Important to make right choices to avoid eternal regret

B. These Are Words of Wrath

1. Facts about Pilate

a. He was the governor of Judaea

b. He was hated by the Jews and he hated them

c. Made Caesarea Philippi his royal city; not Jerusalem

d. He came to the Passover each year as a show of power

2. Now feels he has been prodded into this unjust decision

a. Had examined Jesus and found no fault in Him

b. Tried to be neutral: washed his hands

c. Knows now that neutrality failed: Jesus being crucified

3. Angry at the crowd for their words

4. Angry at himself for his weakness

5. Some will be eternally angry over wrong decisions in life

6. Decisions determine destiny: decide for Christ

C. These Are Words of Review

1. All the events of the past hours rush through Pilate’s mind

2. He must have reviewed every detail again and again

a. The attitude of his prisoner

b. The advice of his wife

c. The cries of the crowd

3. He would like to call time back again and have a replay

4. It is too late

a. What he has done he has done

b. What he has written he has written

III. Conclusion

A. There Are No Replays in Life

1. But there is forgiveness

2. There is opportunity for a new start (John 3:16)

B. The Death of Jesus Offers Opportunity for a Life-Changing Decision

1. Trust Jesus today and be free

2. No matter what you have written
