Professing To Be Wise, They Became Fools

Current statistics tell us that when asked about their religious affiliation or practice, 38% of Americans who were surveyed replied, "None". The category of "None" when it comes to basic beliefs about God and the Bible are rising higher each year. For those of us who are keeping an eye on the end times and the soon return of Jesus Christ, it should not surprise us (Luke 21:28; 2 Timothy 3:1-8). For generations, people have been fed the rancid gruel of "self-esteem", "looking out for Number 1", their "best life now", or hearing sermonettes (when they even bother to attend worship services) that are designed to entertain, "tickle ears", and "meet their needs" (2 Timothy 4:3). Public schools have for decades pounded the idea into the heads of impressionable young people that they are mere descendants of hominids who got tired of swinging through the trees and throwing their waste at one another. These "ape-men" decided to create a method of physical and mental development, corner the market on it, figure out how to get ready for the next "evolutionary jump" and somehow end up as the human beings we are today. Well, somewhere along the way, there must have been a "glitch" at the evolutionary factory, due to the fact that apes and monkeys are still here. I have yet to hear from an evolutionary biologist on how this little mishap occurred. The irony is that to even question this "theory" (a.k.a. LIE) is sacrilegious in many areas of the scientific community and will bring about a type of excommunication for even suggesting that there is a design to the universe and that unchanging natural laws are a part of it (Genesis 1:1-31; Job, Chapters 38-42). Go figure.

The past couple of generations have not only had their heads filled with pseudoscience disguised as "settled" fact but have also embraced the notion that the idea of purpose and meaning to our lives is an exercise in futility and despondency that leads to the grave and nothing more. With that type of mindset, is it little wonder that we have been comfortable for the most part with the idea of life being expendable, that the life inside an expectant mother is nothing but an insignificant "blob of tissue" that could be disposed of for a price? (P.S. Isn't it ironic that this same bunch who have repeatedly told us to "trust the science" get all bent out of shape when women are shown an ultrasound of their unborn baby and then decide to keep it? Why do the pro-abortionists get mad when the mother "chooses" to keep their baby?). We see the growing number of suicides and murder of children, teens, and adults every day on the news, and have become so accustomed to these tragedies that it doesn't really make much of an impact in our own lives and mindsets. We do not stop to consider the terrifying truth that someone has gone into eternity, either redeemed or damned (Revelation 20:11-15). The sharp rise in illiteracy in every field of learning is alarming and frightening. We fail to remember that those who take comfort in their ignorance are easier to control and are more gullible to not just listen to but allow the charming words of false teachers, tyrants, and the powerful to do their thinking for them. I should not have to inform anyone who is a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ that ignorance is not a fruit of the Spirit (Psalm 111:10; Proverbs 4:7; Acts 17:11, Galatians 5:20-22; 2 Timothy 2:15, 3:16-17).

Atheists like Bill Maher, the host of "Real Time", lament that people are growing dumber with each passing day, and that everything of merit is collapsing before our eyes. Indifference rules the souls of many, and society is at the brink of collapse. Yet at the same time, he and other "brights" (the obnoxious name the "new atheists" have given themselves), applaud and champion the rise in unbelief and hostility toward the idea of God's existence, the validity of the Bible, and the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ. These so-called "brights" have arrogantly allowed their spiritual and moral dimness to blind themselves to the obvious (Romans 1:20-22). This should be a blunt lesson to everyone in America today. When our nation decided to turn its back on God and told Him to go away, He did the most terrifying thing that He could ever do in such a situation. He did so, withdrawing the hedge of protection He gave us, and allowed our sins and unbelief to reap a whirlwind of chaos and a harvest of dung and mud that is the result of embracing atheism instead of the Author of our Salvation. Atheism is a stench that reeks of pride, arrogance, hatred, malevolence, willful ignorance, and rebellion against the standards and will of the Sovereign LORD GOD Almighty. God calls it out for what it is: rank foolishness and the fruit of blind stupidity and rebellion on our part (Psalm 2:1-12, 14:1-3, 51:1-3).
