Summary: Mothers made a difference. Here are some examples of Mothers of the Bible who made a difference.
Mother’s Who Make a Difference
Reading: Psalm 113
Intro: Genesis 3:20
Eve was the mother of all living
“Eve” means “living”
She was the first mother, the first to ever give birth to a Child
She had three sons, Cain, Able and Seth….
-Able had been murdered by Cain.
-It was through the line of Seth that people began to
call upon the name of the Lord. Gen. 25-26
Since the time of Eve, it has fallen to mothers to raise their children for the Lord.
Our mothers bring us into the world.
-They nurture us.
-They provide for us.
-They raised us up
Mother’s have a remarkable ability to change the world through their children.
MOTHER’S WHO MADE A DIFFERNECE
1. The Protective Mother – Jochebed. Exodus 2:1-4
-Moses’ mother took great risks to protect her son.
--Tell story
--The Plan – Exodus 1:15-16
--The Problem – vs. 17-22
-Moses mother put in a basket to protect him.
--She watched him from a distance
-She schemed his rescue (?)
--she became his nanny. Vs 9
-Moses was brought up in Pharaoh’s house.
-Mother’s protected us in many ways.
--Physically – protected us from danger
--Morally – by teaching us right from wrong
--Emotionally – Often they protected us from things
they knew would hurt us.
--Spiritually. – Brought us up to love and serve the
Lord.
2. The Supportive Mother – Hannah 1 Samuel 1:24-28
-Hannah prayed for a son, (she was barren) vs. 9-17
--God gave her a son. Vs 20
--She gave him to the Lord. Vs 20-28
--Samuel was taken to the Lord’s house to be a servant
of the Lord.
-She continued to support him in the Lord’s work.
-There are three things that we can learn from Hannah.
1. God answers prayer concerning children
2. We would give our children to the Lord to use
them as He sees fit.
-Some parents plan out their children’s future.
-It may NOT be God’s plan…sometimes it is.
3. We should support our children in doing the
Lord’s will.
-Many young men are discouraged from ministry because “there’s no money in it”.
-We should support our kids in their pursuit of God’s will.
--NOT…"what do you want to be when you grow up"?
--BUT…"how do you think God could use you".
--OR "what do you think God wants you to do".
-NOR should we force our kids into ministry…it may not be God’s will for them.
3. The instructive mother. 2 Tim 1:1-5
-The faith that was in Timothy was first in his Grandmother and in his mother.
--They were an example of faith.
--They taught him the scripture. Vs 3:15
-Mother’s how much time do you spend talking to your
children about the Scripture.
--They should first hear about God from you.
--Teach them the songs about Jesus.
--They should be singing about Jesus before they are
singing about Barney.
-Teach them about Jesus
--Get a good Bible Story Book.
--read to them…sing with them.
-The Great commandment. Deut. 6:4-9
--Teach them diligently…
-Get them to church.
--Share in their Sunday School lesson
--Ask questions.
4. The loyal mother. John 19:25
-There stood by the cross of Jesus, His mother.
-She was loyal to her son till his death.
-No matter what our children do, no matter what they
go through…we should be loyal to our children.
--Mom’s don’t give up…
--This does not mean that you condone or approve their sin.
--Always be the home they can come to.
--Many of us have Moms that could have given up on
us…but they hung in there and were loyal to us.
----When we hurt them.
---When we disappointed them
---When we disowned them.
Conclusion
-To the moms who protected us, supported us, instructed us, and were loyal to us…we say THANK YOU!
-To the young mother’s here today we say…
--Protect your kids, Support them, Teach them in the
Lord, Remain loyal to them… don’t give up.
