#14 ~ Moses -pt.1 SS Heb.11:23-27 9-7-14
@@ Genesis 15: --
Today we'll continue in our study of Hebrews 11: - often referred to as "the hall of faith chapter" - also called "the catalog of the faithful" chapter.
Verses 23-28 are to do with Moses, a man who ranked almost as high as Abraham in the Hebrew hall of fame.
It begins by telling about the faith of Moses parents, Amram and Jochebed.
------------
~ But before we get under-way I want to lay a little foundation in order for us to see and understand how all these truths to do with Moses come about.
~ Moses was of the tribe of Levi, Moses older brother Aaron of 3 years, was the 1st high priest of Israel, they had an older sister Miriam. -- She was seven years older than Moses. -- Miriam was the oldest.
-- Most sources say she was seven years older than Moses.
~She was also a prophetess. -- I have heard people say that there were no women prophetess, but that's not the case.
~ Six women in scripture are expressly stated as possessing the title of prophetess. ~ Five in the O.T. -- and one in the gospel of Luke named Anna.
>Luke 2:36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser:
Old Testament was; Miriam - Deborah - Huldah - Noadiah & Isaiah's wife.
Isaiah's wife is not named.
Noadiah - gained a bad reputation (Neh. 6:14).
New Testament: - Anna and The Daughters of Phillip.
~ Philip is mentioned in Acts as having four daughters who prophesied which brings the number of prophetesses to ten.
----------
~ Moses fore- fathers goes as such, Abraham - Isaac-- Jacob-- Levi, the 3rd. son of Jacob and Leah, all the priest are of the tribe of Levi. -- Jesus was of the tribe of Judah, the 4th son of Jacob and Leah.
~ I want to lay a little foundation as we begin talking about Moses, in order that we may have a better understanding to do with him. -- Let me point out that there was about 245 years between the death of Abraham and the birth of Moses.
We'll begin by reading the account of God speaking to Abram.
@@@ Genesis 15:12-14 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.
~ This was not a common sleep such as weariness or carelessness, God was in this sleep, much like that which God caused to fall upon Adam when He took the rib from Adam and made Eve. -- Gen. 2:21-- God formed Adam from the dust of the earth Gen.2:7 - He made Eve from a rib from Adam.
--------
Remember, this was while Abram was in this deep God sent sleep:
13And HE said unto Abram, Know of a surety (a solemn promise) that thy seed (the Jews) shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; (the Egyptians) and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
----------
Notice; the Jews would be afflicted BY THE EGYPTIANS 400 years.
This persecution began with mocking, from Ishmael, the son of Hagar an Egyptian. (Ishmael was after the flesh- Abraham had relations with Hagar as Sarah told him to do so, Sarah thought she would have a son by Abraham and Hagar, she didn't think that she her self would ever have a son, so Ishmael is referred to as "of the flesh" this was not God's plan.)
~ Ishmael persecuted Isaac, who was born after the Spirit. -- Gods plan.
>Gen. 21:9 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking. -- Here the persecution begins.
>Gal. 4:29 But as then he that was born after the flesh (Ishmael) persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, (Isaac) even so it is now.
~It's still going on today, but when the dust finally settles --
>Psalm 49:14 -- the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning;
It's only a matter time, Gods great plan is right on schedule.
----------
Listen, what would be the particulars of Israel's sufferings?
They shall be strangers; they were first in Canaan -
>Ps. 105:11-12 Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance: -- 12When they were but a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it. -- Notice the Jews has earthly promises. - The Church, heavenly.
----------
~ So they were first in Canaan, and afterwards in Egypt; notice, before they were lords of their own land they were strangers in a strange land.
