Luke 17:-26-30 # 7 PROPHCEY 8-6-11

Today if the Lord be willing we’ll continue with our subject of Prophecies. Listen as I read today’s text found in:

Luke 17:-26-30 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. 27They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all ------

Likewise also {same as} as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; 29But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. 30Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

Here in our text the Lord Jesus gives details about what the conditions in the world would be like just before He returns.

It will be as it was in the days of Noah and Lot. And let me say that we don’t have to have some kind of masters degree in theology to understand that we’re now in these days, with each passing day becoming worse and worse as we see the sodomites holding many political positions in our government that Obama has installed.

• The Lord highlights two major signs of the end here in our text:

He will come suddenly when people do not expect Him to return. Most people will be going about their normal activities, unaware of the times, -- when He returns, society will be degenerate and wicked just as it was before the Flood and before God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.

Genesis 6:5-8 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

6And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

8But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD

• I want to change our thought direction here just long enough to say something about these

words we read in Gen.6:6 to do with God repenting, and this is from Brother Wayne Jackson that I discovered while putting this together, he says---There are several figures of speech in the Bible that accommodate the human level of understanding.

One is to do with (the form of man), that is where physical features are ascribed to God, such as, the eyes of the Lord (1 Pet. 3:12), Jehovah’s arm (Jn. 12:38), etc. These depict God’s watchfulness and his power to you and me so we can understand it better.

There is another figure called (mans feeling), whereby human emotions are sometimes attributed to God. To say, that God “repented,” or that he was “grieved,” is only a symbolic way of asserting that man’s conduct did not meet the divine standard. This language portrays from a human perspective, God’s displeasure at mans rebellion in Gen.6:

• Brother Wayne Jackson continues to say:

First, let us demonstrate what the passage cannot mean. It does not mean that God created the human family, expecting that it would remain loyal to him, but that, eventually, humanity strayed. The Lord was then disappointed, and so regretted he had made us. That cannot be the meaning for the following reasons.

1. God is omniscient; that means he knows everything. “Great is our Lord, and mighty in

power; his understanding is infinite” (Psa. 147:5). If the Lord’s understanding is infinite, he must have known, before he created man that he would fall.

This is further evidenced by the fact that the plan of salvation was purposed before humanity was created. Paul affirms that God “chose us in [Christ] before the foundation of the world,” and that our redemption was “through [Jesus’] blood” (Eph. 1:4,7; cf. 1 Pet. 1:2; Rev. 13:8).

Since the sacrifice for human sin was provisioned even before the world was created, it necessarily follows that our Creator knew we would transgress long before Adam and Eve were placed in Eden.

God would no longer be longsuffering with such widespread wickedness.

Repented does not imply that God made a mistake in His dealings with men, but rather indicates a change in divine direction resulting from the actions of man.

Now then let’s get back to our text in Luke 17:26-30

Luke 17:-26-30 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. 27They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all ------
