Life in Christ

Reading: John 5:19-24

Intro: John 11:1

-This is the story of the raising of Lazarus

-Review Story

-Jesus asked, “do you believe this?”

-I am asking you today…do you believe this?

Jesus gives us life

I. Jesus gives us Resurrection life.

A. In our sin we were dead…

B.Ephesians 2:1-6

-By God’s mercy

-By God’s love

-By God’s grace

-We have been raised up together with Christ.

-Like Lazarus was dead…and made alive, so have we

been made alive in Christ.

C.This life comes when we trust Him…John 11:25

-1 Corinthians 15:20-22

In Christ we have Resurrection life…because He lives, I can live also.

II. In Christ we have eternal life.

John 11:26

A. Eternal life means that we can life forever.

-This body will one day perish, but my soul will live

eternally.

B.God has prepared a place for us to go on to everlasting life.

-It won’t be here on this earth.

-It will be in a place prepared just for us.

John 14:1-2 (Let not your heart be troubled)

C. Eternal life…. just think of it.

-No end

-No good-byes

-John 10:27-30

-1 John 5:11-13

D. Eternal life is found by trusting in Christ.

-He that believeth in me…

-It can’t be bought.

-It can’t be finagled some other way…Jesus only.

In Christ we have eternal life.

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word,

and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

III. In Christ we have abundant life.

A. Definition: exceeding some number or measure or rank or need

1a) over and above, more than is necessary, superadded.

B.He abundantly forgives.

Isaiah 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

C. He abundantly blesses us.

Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

D.He fills our life abundantly

Ephesians 3:14-21

-With Christ in our hearts. Vs 17

-Rooted and grounded in love.

-With the comprehension of what God has done for us.

E. Filled with the fullness of God

-Has God filled you life?

--He fills the emptiness

--He fills the loneliness

--He satisfies our hunger.

--He brings peace to the troubled heart

-He has filled my life.

F. He abundantly answers prayer

Ephesians 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Conclusion:

-God offers you life

-God offers you eternal life

-God offers you abundant life.
