Summary: Master Jesus is committed to teaching us everyday and His desire is for every Christian to be more and more like Him (“everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.

Who is Jesus to you??

In John 13:13 Jesus said, "You call me ’Teacher’ and ’Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am.”

Jesus is Lord and Jesus is Master Teacher!

If Jesus is our Lord, we are to worship Him ALWAYS!

If Jesus is our Master Teacher, we are to learn from Him CONSTANTLY!

How OFTEN are we learning from Him? What did He teach?

Please open your Bibles to the Gospel of Luke Chapter 6.

We had noted that Jesus chose and called 12 close disciples and started teaching them. Along with the 12, others became disciples because they followed and listened to the teachings of Jesus. Disciples in general meant pupil and learner. However, among those disciples some were actually fake followers and so Jesus made sure they heard what they needed to hear. Maybe those words are for us as well.

And if we are true disciples of Jesus Christ, we are to listen to our Master Teacher and do what He says. Let us all learn together by listening to Jesus words. Read along with me Luke 6:37- 45.…..

Let us first note the important verse which gives a warning and a reward.

We should all memorize Luke 6:40….

What are we to note from this verse?

If we believe in Jesus Christ, and we all should because He is God,

1. Our attitudes should always be pupil and learner under Christ! But let us be careful of not being true disciples (this was the lesson last week). A student is not above his teacher!

Master Jesus is committed to teaching us everyday. Everyday, are we listening to Jesus or are we telling Him what to do?

In the same way, when we pray, are we listening to God’s answers or are forcing God to do what we want?

Master Jesus is committed to teaching us everyday and His desire is for every Christian to be more and more like Him. Jesus tells us in v40, “everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.” And so,

2. Do we see ourselves “in training” everyday with Jesus?

What does it mean when someone is “in training”??

Because we are to be “in training” with Jesus, everyday we are to:

- know and remember the basics

- watch our spiritual diet

- meet and listen to our Coach Jesus

- exercise and practice what Jesus says

What are we to exercise and practice? Jesus tells us specific things to do in v37-38! Do not judge! Do not condemn! Forgive! Give!

Jesus is looking for true disciples, true followers; and Jesus tells us of the rewards and the warning as we learn from Him. What is the warning??

As we learn from God Jesus Christ, we are to be careful of being hypocrites!

Anybody knows the meaning of the original Greek word for hypocrite?? – an actor, one who puts on a mask!

And so what Jesus was saying was that we must be careful in putting on an act that we are better than anybody else.

All, including you and me, have sinned, and will continue to sin, and fall short of the glory of God. As Disciples of Christ, all of us are only saved by God’s grace; therefore we must all be careful of judging others!

Don’t live (act) as if you’re better than anybody else!

How can we evaluate ourselves? Jesus tells us in v43-44: bear good fruit (Galatians 5:22….)

And we can evaluate ourselves by, v45: godly words spoken!

How much do we swear? How many times do we use “bad” words? What we think and what we put in our hearts will come out of our mouths!

Remember this acronynm? TNRPLA EP (Philippians 4:8)

Let us close by noting the rewards God promises to true Disciples of Christ:

v38: God will bless us back abundantly!

And again from v40: Being changed to the likeness of Christ, the Almighty God!

Do you see yourself as a true Disciple of Christ?

Take heed of His teachings.

Pray to Him right now and make a commitment!
