# 11~Issac Hebrews 11: 20 SS 8-17-14

Gen.25:19 -33 -- Gen.27:

Today we'll continue our study of Hebrews 11: - the "hall of the faith" chapter, listen as I read our text verse, it's to do with the faith of Isaac.

Hebrews 11: 20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.

~ What we're told here is that Isaac pronounced a blessing on both sons to do with things to come. --- This was done by faith in God Who had revealed these things to him; Isaac believed fully that God would accomplish all that was here prophesied.

In this verse, Isaac's act of faith was total belief that what-ever God says is true. --- When we realize that there were no human probabilities at the time when these prophetic announcements were made, "which could have been the basis of his calculation," but all that Isaac prophesied must have rested altogether on the belief that God had revealed it to him.

A blessing was pronounced on each son, of a very different nature, but Isaac had no doubt that both would be fulfilled, this blessing was prophetic; it was concerning things to come.

 -------

~ As we get a little further into this study to do with Isaac blessing his two sons, we'll read that there was much deceitfulness involved in the way that Jacob come about receiving the " patriarchal blessing" from Isaac.

Remember Isaac was almost blind when this takes place in Gen. 27; he was deceived by his wife Rebecca and Jacob.

Isaac thought he was blessing Esau when he blessed Jacob, he didn't intentionally give Jacob the PATRIACHAL blessing, though it was the will of God that he should.

~ Many people today might feel like Esau got a bad deal, that he should have received the Patriarchal blessing that was rightfully his.

Let us never forget that God knows all things, from beginning to end, the lineage of Jesus the Savior of the world was what was at stake here, God knew Esau didn't care for spiritual things, that he was and always would be a carnal minded person, so God, as always was the DIRECTOR.

~~ 1 Samuel 16:7-- for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

  ------------------------------

Jacob and Esau were twins, not identical twins; they were two different people in every way. -- Esau was born first, and according to their custom in those days, Esau being the first born was to receive the blessing of the 1st born, which included -- the patriarchal blessing.

The "patriarchal blessing" included three things, First, there was the right to the family progenitor-ship, that is, the right to be the one through whom the line of descent to the Messiah would run; --- second, he had a right to the position of priest in the family; --- and thirdly, he had a right to a double portion of the family property.

-------------

God, however, had decreed that "the elder should serve the younger" (Gen 25:23).

@@@ Gen.25:19 -33 And these are the generations of Isaac, Abraham’s son: Abraham begat Isaac: 20And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padanaram, the sister to Laban the Syrian.

21And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

Isaac prayed to the Lord that He would allow Rebecca to have a child, and the Lord answered his prayer.

  --------

22And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the LORD.

Rebecca knew she was going to have twins, because she could feel them struggling with each other, which was only the beginning of the fighting that was to come from their dissidence, these would always be against each other, as we can plainly see today.

 --------

23And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.

--- God says here, "the elder- Esau" shall serve "the younger- Jacob"

 --------

This was predestination founded upon the foreknowledge of God.

God knew Esau and Jacob as they were formed in the womb, with Gods perfect foreknowledge, He knew that Jacob would start out as a devious person, but that in later years would turn to God. --

~ God would change Jacobs name to "ISRAEL" in Gen.32:28 -- we see that again in Gen. 35:10. -- "ISRAEL" means, “prince with God”
