Summary: God’s will

??plum run transition sermon #1

1 John? ?5?:?14?-?15? ?NASB1995??

“This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.”

Let’s pray!!!

I received a call this week….!!! & wondered what I was supposed to preach & finally I received the message I believe I’m supposed to preach today

Sometimes not often but occasionally I hear a sermon and while listening to it the Holy Spirit will tell me that’s the one I’m supposed to preach

How to discern God’s will in our decisions!!

1. What is God’s will for our lives (in every major decision we make in life we should ask what’s God’s will in this decision)!!

2. We know what we want & we think we know what we need but truly Father knows best!!

3. Sometimes we put a false fleece before God in trying to manipulate God’s will for example family that tried to decide rather or not to take a vacation by saying if car starts!!

4. Missionary who decided not to ask for donations on second term but said if God wants me to go back then he will provide the money he didn’t get to go on second term!!

5. Two boats and a helicopter!!

6. The point I’m trying to make is we need to learn to discern God’s will for our lives and then do what we need to do to be part of his will for our lives

7. Now as far as knowing God’s will I believe if we truly want to know that he will show it to us as long as we truly seek him

With all of that being said I want to give you 5 steps in discerning God’s will

1. We must be absolutely Surrendered to his will not ours or what we think it should be!! (Lord what do you want for this church, who do you want for this Church, what direction do you want us to take for the future of this church) then be surrendered to that even if it’s not necessarily what you want not my will but thy will be done!!

2. Secondly I believe we must not rush it, don’t try to do it in our time but let it be in God’s time I’ve learnt this lesson the hard way over the years as I’ve often jumped without looking when I left Lecta, when I left Jamestown, I almost done it again this time when I got the call from Dan Jordan but then thought they’ve been to good to me and I care to much to leave them before they have someone else (hear me I believe as I always have that you guys do need a pastor closer to here that can do pastoral duties that I can’t because of distance and when you find the right one I will be ready and willing to go to my next assignment whatever that is but while you have me to show up to preach take the time to make sure you find the right one)

3. Thirdly we need to be persistent in Prayer let me explain why it’s not to convince God of what needs to happen he already knows!! But while we take our time praying about it we gets all of our opinions and desires out of the way & allow ourselves the opportunity to hear from God as to what he wants because what he wants is definitely what’s best for us and those around us!!

4. We need to get into the word and see what God has to say on the matter we say we want to hear from God on this matter but close our bibles to try to hear from God!! I saw on facebook recently someone say don’t say God don’t speak anymore while your bible is closed!! Every answer to every question or problem we might have is found somewhere in his word!!

5. Finally “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.” Colossians? ?3?:?15? ?I’ll close with this as you make your decisions make them together and don’t allow this process to cause division among one another!!
