Summary: Again, I want to remind you that God gave us the ten commandments to tell us what HE LIKES, and what HE DISLIKES.

This is important, because it would not be fair for God to hold us responsible on the judgment day, if we did not KNOW WHAT IS and WHAT IS NOT acceptable unto him.

Illus: That would be like going down a highway without any speed limit signs, and the highway patrolman pulling you over, and giving you a speeding violation. That would not be fair to the driver.

In these ten commandments, GOD TELLS US what HE LIKES, and what HE DISLIKES! So far, we looked at:

I. HIS PRIORITY LIST.

II. HIS PUNISHMENT LIST.

III. HIS POLITENESS LIST.

In this second sermon on this series, let us look at some more things to see what HE LIKES, or DISLIKES. Such as:

IV. HIS PLACE LIST.

Look at Exodus 20:8-11. We read, “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”

DID YOU KNOW, IT DISPLEASES GOD WHEN PROFESSING CHRISTIANS DO NOT HAVE A DAY SET ASIDE FOR WORSHIP?

Some are quick to respond to that by saying, “Preacher, God gave these moral laws to Israel. Once they received these commandments, they were to set aside a day for worship!”

What is interesting about people who make this argument, is how they pull that one commandment out of the ten, and say. “That does not apply to us.” If that commandment does not apply to us, neither do the other nine. We cannot choose which of these ten commandments we want to accept, and which ones we want to reject.

God’s Word says in verse 9, “Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work. “ He wanted them to know that the Sabbath day was to be set aside for worship.

Look at verse 10, we read, “But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates.”

In the Old Testament, they worshipped on the last day of the week. In the New Testament, after the resurrection, the early church Christians started worshipping on the first day of the week.

The word “rested” in verse 11, means to “cease”. It is essential that we discover what the word “rest” means.

Illus: There are some who believe it means that if THEY GO FISHING, PLAY GOLF, or GO SHOPPING ON SUNDAY, they are resting, and this is what God had in mind.

That is not what the Word of God is teaching here. The word “rest” means you have all week to GO FISHING, HUNTING, PLAY GOLF, GO SHOPPING AND WORK, but on God’s day, you stop doing those things.

Illus: This word “rest”, is the same thing we do when we are singing. We come to the “rest” note, and we cease singing.

Because God’s men no longer preach and teach what pleases God, and what displeases God, in many churches, it should not shock us, that God’s day has become like any other day.

We are to make a DAY in our busy schedules, for the worship of our Creator. It displeases the Lord when we do not have time for Him. There are many, who do not have time for God during the six days He gives them, and then they take the seventh day also, and rob him of that day, to do their SHOPPING, GOLFING, HUNTING, FAMILY RE-UNIONS, ETC.

A lot of folks are going to have to give account to the Lord on the judgment day, for causing people to have to work in restaurants and stores, because they choose to patronize these places of business on the Lord’s day, like any other day.

This is HIS PLACE LIST. He wants us to put Him first in all of our every day activities, and He wants us to take one day a week to set aside for Him. He also has-

V. HIS PARENTS LIST.

Look at verse 12. We read, “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.”

This is one of the commandments that ranks high, as one of the most violated commandments in the Word of God. Young people do not know what they are doing, when they violate this commandment from God. Again, I remind you, this is not a SUGGESTION, this is a commandment from Almighty God!
