Summary: Who wants to be blessed of God...most would answer affirmatively. Men here is a prescription for blessings --- follow the Word of God -- Lets look at Psalms 1
GOD’S BLESSED MAN
Psalm I
Introduction
A. WHO WANTS TO BE BLESSED OF GOD?
1. Most would answer affirmatively
2. Your presence here indicates your interest in God’s Blessing
B. THE FIRST STEP IN GOD’S WAY OF BLESSING IS SALVATION
1. This is the message of the entire Bible
2. There is no formula for blessing that does not begin
with faith
3. Psalm 1 assumes that salvation has taken place
C. PRESCRIPTION FOR BLESSING
A. THE DANGERS TO GOD’S BLESSED MAN (v. 1)
1. There are detours along the way
2. The threefold danger:
a. Walking in the counsel of the ungodly
(1) The ungodly always are ready to give advice
(2) This may be in the form of literature
(3) This may be in the form of advertising
(4) This may be in the form of entertainment
b. Standing in the way of sinners
(1) First you listen, then you live
(2) As the twig is bent
c. Sitting in the seat of the scornful
Note the progression: first listened, then adopted the standards, now makes fun of
God’s standards
The road of the scornful is always downward
Watch out for these dangers
B. THE DELIGHT OF GOD’S BLESSED MAN (v. 2)
I. His delight is in the law of the Lord
2. He has learned to make God’s Word his delight
a. To some it is boring, but to him it is blessed
b. To some it is dull. but to him it is delightful
c. To some it is fantasy, but to him it is food
d. To some it is information, but to him it is inspir.ation .
3. But not many will make God’s Word their delight
a. You must move against the tide to do this
b. You must decide to be in the minority
4. David’s delight (Ps. 119:16,47,77)
C. THE DESTINY OF GOD’S BLESSED MAN (v. 3)
I. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water
2. What a beautiful illustration
a. The tree reaching down its roots into the stream
b. The river represents the Holy Spirit
3. This tree brings forth fruit (Gal. 5:22-23)
4. His leaf shall not wither (his testimony)
5. In whatsoever he does, he will prosper (Rom. 8:28)
III. CONCLUSION
A. SEE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE BLESSED MAN AND THE UNGODLY
I. The ungodly are not so: refers to all of the above
2. Like the chaff which is with the grain until the wind
blows
3. The ungodly shall not stand in the judgment
a. "Stand" is the same as "rise up" (the resurrection. Rev. 20:6)
b. Neither sinners in the congregation. . . when it is made UP!!
B. BLESSING OR BLIGHT? WHICH WILL IT BE?
