God Is Love: That's Why He Created Hell
Contributed by Donald Whitchard on Aug 18, 2021 (message contributor)
Summary: This is a revision of a sermon I posted over a year ago on another website. The subject matter is more timely than ever considering the rapid descent into evil and chaos we have witnessed recently. Come quickly, Lord Jesus.

There are some things that are getting more hard to find as the days draw nearer to the LORD'S return, such as ethical politicians, intelligent leftists, happy liberals, competent leadership, and sound Biblical preaching on the reality and horror of a literal, real place called hell. Now that I have your attention, let us dispense with any notion brewing in some of your heads that when it comes to the topic of hell, you want to either avoid or deny it because it interferes with your self-deluded idea of Almighty God being a God of love and compassion who is too good to see any of His created beings cast into a place a horrible as hell. You might even balk at the idea of hell entirely, chalking it up as the creation of a "sick mind", according to the rants of the late atheist Christopher Hitchens and others who think along his frame of mind. You may even consider yourself a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ and cannot come to grips with something as terrifying as hell and the fact that He indeed did put it into place.
If this is where you are right now, then as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, I cannot and will not allow you to wander in that type of deception and unbelief and remain content with false ideas on what our God can and cannot do in terms of seeing that justice will be settled in the courtroom of heaven for His grace and glory. Pastor, if you are reading this sermon and have not been faithful in preaching the whole counsel of God, then continue on and I pray that your heart will be convicted and you will repent here and now for starving your flock and feeding them trends, fads, opinions, and worldly causes that will do nothing for them in terms of eternal peace and salvation. The truth of Scripture overrides feelings, alleged "offenses" and false senses of comfort and nobody who trusts Christ as Lord and Savior can afford to be silent when it comes to the fact that there is coming a day when we are all going to stand before Almighty God and give an account of our lives to Him, both good and bad (Matthew 7:21-23; Luke 12:13-21; John 5:28-29; Acts 17:30-31; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 20:11-15).
Whatever realm of personal convictions or beliefs any of us possess have been corroded with sin and, apart from the intervention of the Sovereign LORD, we are all blind and totally unable to confront and rebuke the obvious wrongs that are in plain sight. The toxic atmosphere of "political correctness", "cancel culture", "fake news" and progressive "Christianity" being promoted by almost all denominations and prevalent religious spokesmen is promoting a fanatical state of denial and ridicule of what is plainly written in the Scriptures as well as the very person of the Lord Jesus Christ whose words are to be declared as true, no matter what people might think or say. In our arrogance, many of us feel that we need to gently but firmly tell the Sovereign God of all Creation Who holds our very lives and existence in His hands (Hebrews 10:31) that what He has said to us in the Holy Scriptures does not really mean what it says, or were somehow "corrupted" by superstitions and errors in translation or interpretation, or we want to defend His character by "toning down" the fact that He has judged nations and people throughout history, often harshly, for their failure to obey or follow His direction. Oh, give me a break! Let God be true and every man a liar (Romans 3:4)!
His own people, the nation of Israel, had dark periods of idol worship and gross wickedness along with times of devotion and obedience. Even when warned by His prophets, Israel still refused to listen to God until the day came where He exiled them from their land as punishment for their disobedience and false worship, placing them under the iron grips of Babylon, Persia, Greece, and Rome. Yet, He chose to preserve them and keep them together as a people of His choosing and under His protection during the centuries when they had no homeland until May 1948. It is from Israel that the Lord Jesus, as King of Kings, will rule and reign over the new heaven and earth as He declared and promised to His followers in the Scriptures. The Jews and the nation of Israel are the people of God, plain and simple. If that upsets your political or ideological apple cart, take it up with Almighty God, but I promise that it will not end well for you. Any nation or people that have given the Jews trouble or have persecuted them have ended up on the ash heap of history (Genesis 12;1-4). America, you are no exception. Deal with it! All the flag waving, brass bands, and celebrations are as so much rubbish in the sight of God if we refuse to stand with Him or His people.
