Gideon I

Judges 6:1-16

One of the greatest stories of victory is found in Judges 6 concerning Gideon.

I. God had a purpose. Judges 6:1-6

A. History

-God had brought the people out of Egypt.

-They had conquered the Land.

-God was to be their King.

-Judges would be God’s leaders.

-They were to posses the Land.

-They were to serve the Lord ONLY

B. The people did evil. Vs 1

-They were following the gods of the people.

-They had turned their back on the Lord.

-Judges 21:25 sums up the situation in Israel.

C. The people were defeated by their enemy.

-They were hiding out. Vs 2

-The enemy had stolen everything from them.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

D. When they were in trouble the people “cried unto

the Lord. Vs 6-7

-Why is we only turn to God when we get in trouble.

-This trouble began with their disobedience.

II. The Lord sent a Prophet. (preacher) vs 8

-I brought you up out of the world.

-I gave you this land. Vs 9

-I am the LORD you God.

-Do not go after the gods of the Amorites.

A. YOU HAVE NOT OBEYED MY VOICE.

-Ingratitude- Not thankful for what God had done.

-Comfortable – God had blessed them

-Selfishness – God had given them everything.

-Irreverent – No longer loved or worshipped God.

B. The prophet only showed them the obvious.

-Sometimes we just need to be reminded.

-Sometimes we need to be reprimanded.

-Sometimes we need to be awakened

-Sometimes we just need revival.

III. God had a plan. Vs 11-16

A. God’s plan always begins with a man.

-Abraham

-Moses

-Jesus

-Paul

B. Gideon. Vs 11-12

-Gideon was also hiding. Vs 11

-The Lord appeared unto him, it was the Lord Himself. “the angel of the Lord”

-The Lord is with thee. You are not alone

-Thou might man of valour. Vs 12

-God saw something no one else could see.

--Example of David.

-Valour – brave

C.Gideon’s doubts. Vs 13

-Why is this happening to us?

-Where are the miracles?

-What happened?

D-Gideon’s orders

-Go. Vs 14

-Thou shalt save.

-Have not I sent thee.

E.God’s device. – Sometimes we are the solution we are praying for.

-Gideon’s denial.

-How can I do it?

-My family is poor

-I am the least in my father’s house.

-This is right where God wants us.

-This is the kind of person that God can use.

E.God response. Vs 16

-I will be with thee.

-You can do it.

Conclusion:

-Have you said "Lord, Here am I send somebody else?

-You may be the answer to your own prayers.

-God can use you like He used Gideon
