God's House May Cease? Series

There’s a new movie out; Captain Marvel another superhero in Lalaland!

But in real life, what do people really look for in a hero??

Who do you think the general public would say are their heroes today??

We do need heroes today don’t we? When we were growing up, we certainly needed heroes; they were our parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. When we went to school our teachers, coaches, and those ahead of us were our heroes. But as we become adults, I believe we still to look for someone to look up to and emulate!

And think about this, as we ourselves grow up, there may be people watching us and sees us as their heroes! What type of people do we want to see in people following us?

I hope and pray that we would all say that we desire godly people to follow us;

of course that will only happen if we are godly ourselves!

We can note from many Scriptures in the New Testament that all Christians are to grow in the Lord while still here on earth. We can grow in the Lord today and hopefully fully grasp who is our true hero as we listen carefully what God taught the Hebrew Christians 2000 years ago. Open your Bibles to The Letter to the Hebrews 3……….. Read along with me…

v1: Christians are:

• holy brothers and sisters – in the family of God

• bound for heaven

Before we note the next point, let us look at other English Translations:

ESV - Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession.

NKJV - Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus.

NASB - Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession.

We can note the use of the word “consider” in the other translations….

• to fix thoughts (consider) – katanoeó = take note of, perceive, consider carefully, discern, detect, make account of Jesus Christ!

• to acknowledge Jesus Christ as personal Apostle and High Priest!

“Apostolos” = a messenger, one sent on a mission

(Jesus was sent by God for people!)

High Priest – “archiereus” = preeminent leader/intercessor towards God

v2: God tells the Hebrew Christians:

• Jesus Christ is greater than Moses, who they knew

• the God they trust and believed in appointed Jesus

v3-5: God builds His House through Jesus Christ who deserves all the honor

v6?..... look at the different English translations:

NIV - But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.

ESV – but Christ is faithful over God's house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.

NKJV - but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.

NASB - but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house—whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end.

And so, what are truths from v6?

a. Christ was and is faithful over God’s house

b. Christians make up God’s House

c. God’s house exist if….??

Christians must persevere in confidence and rejoicing in Jesus Christ!

We today as Christians must persevere in our faith in Jesus Christ!

We have enough truths here to consider for today don’t we? We’ll delve into v 7- 19 next week. The truths we read in Hebrews 3 may sound basic, but let us discuss how we would apply these truths on a daily basis.

1. First of all as noted in v1….. Christians are in the family of God and are bound for heaven! How do we practice these truths on a daily basis??

2. Do we need work on consider Jesus in everything?

And in conclusion, the Hebrew Christians 2000 years ago were warned to be careful who their heroes are to be; their only hero is to be Jesus Christ, not angels nor Moses! Is Jesus Christ our main hero in our lives?

3. Jesus Christ is our ultimate hero, the Only One:

• we must always focus on

• to lead and intercede for us towards God

• to fully trust and believe

• to honor always

Focusing only on Jesus is similar to point 2 isn’t it?

But let’s discuss a bit more the other truths:

On a practical daily basis how do we allow Jesus to lead and intercede for us?? - Bible and Prayer!
