Getting Drunk In The Spirit.

Acts 2:14-21NKJV

A ship-wrecked man who managed to reach and uninhabited Island decided to protect himself against the elements and to safeguard the few possessions he had savaged by painstakingly building a little hut. Still, he constantly and prayerfully scanned the ocean for any approach of a rescue ship. Returning to his makeshift shelter one evening after a search for food, the man was shocked to see his hut was completely enveloped in flames. What a crushing disaster!

The next morning he woke to find a ship anchored off the island. When the captain stepped ashore, he said “We saw your smoke signal and came.”

“The disciples of Jesus were hurting, but soon Jesus would see their smoke. Their embers. -He would make a fire by sending us the Holy Spirit!” PH

The disciples remembered some of Jesus’ last before His ascension, Acts 1:11.

Luke 24:49NKJV Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

This word endued means, clothed, or robed with power from on high.

For 10 days, camped inside an upper-room in Jerusalem, 120 disciples of Jesus experienced the power and results of the Holy Spirit. These men and women experienced Jesus in His resurrected state. P.H

Acts 1:3NKJV  to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.

What does infallible proofs mean? Unmistakeable. By examples, gifts, and fruit that are undeniable. -Proof that can’t lie.

Jesus appeared to His apostles after His resurrection, He taught them the significance of His death and resurrection in relation to the kingdom of God.

Jesus lived, Matthew 6:9, Kingdom come, Will be done. -On earth as it is in heaven!

The teachings of Jesus would prepare His disciples to do and live as He did. Kingdom living is Father centered.

If you are pleasing Father, you are kingdom centered. Romans 14:17KJV “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.”

Hear me, Salvation, plus the infilling of Holy Spirit is plentiful.

Acts 2:14-21NKJVB But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words. 15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. 16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. 18 And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy. 19 I will show wonders in heaven above And signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. 21 And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved.’

Just as Jesus’ disciples were confused after Jesus’ crucifixion, these men and women in Jerusalem, who weren’t privileged, or for some reason, didn’t obey Jesus’ command to tarry in Jerusalem in an upper room, felt confusion. When you’re not in the will of the Lord you’ll experience confusion! PH

Let’s look at these scriptures verse by verse: 7 powerful truths about getting drunk in the spirit.

So Peter filled to the brim with the Holy Spirit say’s in Acts 2:14...Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, heed my words.

1. Getting drunk in the spirit positions a person to listen to God’s word.

What kind of words did Peter give? OT words, Words straight out of the book of Joel. Alive words, proven words, active words, The very words given by God Himself, Moses, and Abraham, and this prophet, Joel. Hebrews 4:12 words.

Peter emphatically states, Acts 2:15 Let it be known that these men aren’t drunk, they’re not in the flesh, or doing something that is inferior to God.

These men and women are experiencing God's glory!

2. Getting drunk in the spirit, positions you as a candidate for God's glory.

This is outpouring more than likely made the Jewish Bible scholars remember, 2 Chronicles 7:1NIV When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.

What is this glory? It’s God’s endorsement, His approval. When folks start joining the church, getting baptized, hungering for His gifts, His fruit, when people begin inviting others to church, you should know this is God’s glory!
