Summary: Backsliding of king Saul
The Downfall of a nation, a King, A Backslider
“So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against the Lord, because of the word of the Lord which he did not keep; and also because he asked counsel of a medium, making inquiry of it, and did not inquire of the Lord. Therefore He killed him and turned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.”

1. Today I want to look at one of the most tragic stories in biblical history a great example of falling away story of Saul as we consider some reasons that lead to apostasy
* give us a king…!!! First mistake
* God chose Saul: that don’t mean he was good!! Babylon!! Be careful what you ask for!! Eventually the Lord will give you what you want even if it’s bad!!!
* Head and shoulders above the rest!!! Obvious choice from worldly perspective!!! Obvious choice not always the right one!! The world will tell you do this or that let the Holy Spirit apply it as it fits!! Finances, relationships, sexuality,etc. God’s way doesn’t always make sense but it works!! Noah/titanic, crossing Jordan, David vs Goliath,etc.
* Concerning Saul Where did it all go wrong I think it’s hard to pinpoint the exact moment it all happened in fact I don’t know if there was one moment but rather a lot of moments combined!! You see I believe at first Saul was saved but he had a slow gradual downward slide which is how it happens!!
Let’s look at a few of the things he did wrong three things Saul did wrong!!!
* Offered burnt offering himself!! Only one proper Sacrifice!! Acceptable way according to God, we can’t do it ourselves only Jesus can
* King agag and the Amalekites!! Kill them all we can’t choose which ones to keep!! They all have to go, mortify sins of the flesh
* Witch of Endor!! Much wrong with this!! You have to make up your mind as to who’s team your on!!
* Ends in suicide during battle!!! Real reason for his death Died because of his trespasses, not obeying the word of the Lord, and asking counsel of medium, not inquiring of the Lord!!! Wages of sin!!!
