Attention:
One day this earth & universe will pass into oblivion at God’s command.
:11—“Therefore”.....“What manner of persons ought you to be?...”
Peter describes the destined end of this earth & how that fact produces predictable results in God’s people.
God’s plan spurs God’s people to action, produces it’s anticipated results.
How does God’s plan produce it’s anticipated results?
1—God’s plan produces it’s/His anticipated result thru...
His PROMISE TRUSTED/Believed(:9a, :4-7)
Explanation:(:9a, :4-7)Holding to/Believing the Promise
:9—“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”
There is a dynamic at work in God’s ‘inaction.’
A ‘Damned Fool’ is just that...A fool who, by maintaining trust in everything but God, damns him/herself to an eternal hell.
Literally=‘The Lord does not delay the promise’
“The Lord’s” delay(“slackness”) in fulfilling His “promise” is patterned/designed after & around His desire & means of saving the lost. He offers everyone of every generation the “promise” of His return(:3-4).
(See :15)Rom. 11:25—“For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.”
Some misinterpret God’s ‘delay’ or inaction, to mean that God is indeed a ‘slacker.’ And a ‘slacker’ god is not worthy of anyone’s particular attention. Moreover he/she is no true God!

Argumentation:
Mat. 6:19-24—“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth & rust destroy & where thieves break in & steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys & where thieves do not break in & steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness! No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one & love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one & despise the other. You cannot serve God & mammon.”
Rom. 12:9—“Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.”
Hab. 2:2-4—“Then the LORD answered me & said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, & it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry. “Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith.”
Heb. 10:32-39—“But recall the former days in which, after you were illuminated, you endured a great struggle with sufferings: partly while you were made a spectacle both by reproaches & tribulations, & partly while you became companions of those who were so treated; for you had compassion on me in my chains, & joyfully accepted the plundering of your goods, knowing that you have a better & an enduring possession for yourselves in heaven. Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: “For yet a little while, And He who is coming will come & will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.” But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.”
