Summary: My Dad’s funeral

Dad

Song: that’s my Job (play song)

Eulogy: dearly beloved we are gathered together here today to celebrate the life of one of the greatest man I ever knew my Dad Marvin Ray Barker Sr.

Dad was born on February the 28th 1947 to Parents Virgil L. Barker Sr. And Anna Barker and he grew up with two siblings a Brother Virgil L. Barker Jr. & A Sister Treva (Guthrie) Barker

During the 1950’s Polio Epidemic Dad contracted the disease and was expected to not survive but through the Faith & Prayers of his mother and others God brought him through that illness & gave him many more wonderful years

Dad in his early years had a love and passion for playing Baseball he was a short stop and was good at it so good in fact that the village of Jeffersonville offered to pay all expenses for him to go to spring training tryouts with the Cincinnati reds farm team but dad declined the offer not because he didn’t think he would make it but rather because he thought that it might change him from being the man that he was and wanted to continue to be which speaks volumes to his values and character

As a Teenager Dad would begin work with his Uncle’s Johnny Blouse and Harry (midge) Blouse together they would build many miles of Fence shear many heads of Sheep as well as many other things including building barns, working on houses, and many other projects memories that dad would hold dear to his heart and talk about for the rest of his life

As a young Adult He would also work six years for Jack Montgomery at Montgomery Hardware right here in Jeffersonville again something he would share stories about for the rest of his life

After quitting the Hardware he would began his own construction business with only a Car a few tools and a couple ladders he would spend the next 50 plus years doing that work turning it into a business he was able to raise a entire family on

Dad loved to work often quoted the Bible on man’s responsibility to earn his bread by the sweat of his brow something he did very well for his entire life and something he was very proud of as well for as long as I live every time I hear Aaron Tipton’s song working man’s PHD I will always think of my Dad

He also loved Hunting and trapping was a crack shot and loved the challenge of outsmarting those foxes and coyotes probably took more game than most men alive today

At the age of 19 He met my Mom who was only 15 but together through ups and downs twists and turns good and bad they would spend 58 years of Marital Bliss Raising a Family and building a lifetime of memories together

Dad is preceded in Death by his grandparents John Blouse Sr. And Babe (Bami) Blouse his Parents Virgil Barker Sr. And Anna Barker a Brother Virgil Barker Jr. several aunts and uncles and many friends and loved ones

He is survived by his wife Sharon Barker Sons Marvin Barker Jr. and his wife Jody myself Randy Barker and my wife Rachelle a Grandson Jacob and his wife Christine Granddaughter Brandy and her Husband Bird

Another Grandaughter Hali and her husband Brandon two other Grandsons Justin and Jayson and four great grandchildren Colton Dyson Emma and Trenton as well as a sister Treva

Song: go rest high on that mountain

Committal:

“We are here to commit into the earth the mortal body of our departed loved one and to commend unto the Heavenly Father the spirit that He gave. Though our hearts are sorrowful, we take comfort from the assurance of eternal life for those who die in the Lord and the triumph of the resurrection because of Christ’s victory over the grave. Therefore, we take heed unto ourselves as we are reminded of the brevity of life that we may also be found in the grace of our Lord and forever be reunited with our loved ones who also trusted in Jesus in that glorious land where death cannot enter and the Son of God wipes away all tears from our eyes.”
