Summary: Joshua means- “Jehovah saves, or the Lord is my Salvation.” Joshua was born in Egyptian slavery, trained under Moses, and by God’s choice rouse to his position of leading Israel into Canaan. Joshua was approaching 90 years of age when he became Israel’s
Joshua 1:3NLT I promise you what I promised Moses: ‘Wherever you set foot, you will be on land I have given you—
Let me remind you this word came to Moses while he was on the wrong side.
Joshua 1:5NLT No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you.
*As you follow God he promises you divine power! Hebrews 13:5AMP Let your character or moral disposition be free from love of money [including greed, avarice, lust, and craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]
Joshua 1:6-7NLT “Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. 7 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do.
In an 1828 copy of Webster’s Dictionary, the word courage is defined as, “That quality which enables us to face difficulty and danger... without fear or depression.”
What is God telling Joshua? “Ya gotta have heart!”
The strength and courage of Joshua or any present day warrior comes from their confidence that God won’t leave or forsake them.
Joshua 1:8NLT Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.
The word “Meditate” is an active recitation and re-speaking of God’s word.
Testimony: By Jamie Carte. A few years ago I went to the Doctor and had a test performed that resulted in having to get more tests run. It was beginning to look like a very serious condition. The spirit of fear crept in tell me of all the terrible things that could happen and show me pictures of the worst in my mind.
I combated all those fiery darts with The Word of God. When those thoughts came, I had to cancel them. You can’t cancel a thought with another thought, you have to cancel a thought with WORDS! You have to do it just like Jesus did- “It is written!” She said, “Christ healed me, but regardless (to go to heaven or, to stay on earth) I was better off trusting and confessing God’s word. It prepared me for my future.”
Joshua 1:9NLT This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
“The Lord is with you,” Hear Him this morning: “Be strong and courageous!” Prayer.
