1. The Gospel is "according to the Scriptures" (1 Cor. 15:3-4)

2. Christmas then is a good time to study these prophe¬cies

B. Isaiah and Prophecies about Jesus

1. The most eloquent of the prophets speaking of Christ’s birth

2. Let us consider his wonderful introduction to the Savior

3. Isaiah revealed the following about Jesus

I. His miraculous birth (7:14)

1. Isaiah prophesied the virgin birth of Christ

2. The virgin birth was a miracle

3. Miracles surrounding this central miracle

a. The angelic announcements (Luke 1:13-20,26- 38; 2:8-14; Matt. 1:20-23)

b. The timing of the taxing (Luke 2:1)

c. The arrival of the wise men (Matt. 2:1 -18)

4. The greatest miracle was the Incarnation (Phil. 2:5-7)

a. The miraculous virgin birth was a sign

b. The name "Immanuel" (God with us) announced the Incarnation

II. His Many Names (9:6)

1. Wonderful in His birth, His life, His death and resurrection

a. He cares and is capable and compassionate

III. His Magnificent Kingdom (9:7)

1. His government to bring peace to the world

2. He will sit upon the throne of David (Luke 1:32-33)

3. Justice will be found throughout His kingdom

4. Other prophecies of Isaiah about this kingdom

a. The poor will receive equity (11:4)

b. Enmity between animals ended (11:6-7)

c. No more danger to man from animals (11:8)

d. Violence taken from the earth (11:9)

e. The entire earth becomes productive (35:1-7)

f. Great joy characterizes His kingdom (35:10)
