Summary: Hell is Real. We should proclaim the gospel with a great sense of urgency. All who reject Christ will suffer the torment of hell.
The bible says the following concerning hell:
Dan. 12:2 says that some will rise to everlasting life and others to everlasting contempt.
Matt. 25:41 declares that hell or the lake of fire was prepared for the devil and his angels
Rev. 19:20 says that the beast and the false prophet were cast alive into a lake of fire.
The following words depicts hell in the scriptures:
Sheol-the place of departed souls.
Hades means both: place of departed souls and a place of troment.
Gehenna-a place of eternal torment. A derivative of the Valley of Hinnom. (A dump site located south of Jerusalem)
Hell is described several ways in the bible:
A Lake of fire.....Rev. 20:15
A bottomless pit.....Rev. 20:1
Horrible tempest.....Psa. 11:6
Everlasting burnings....Isa. 33:14
A furnance of fire......Matt. 13:42
A devouring fire......Isa. 33:14
I. HELL IS A PLACE.
II. HELL IS PROPHETIC.
III. HELL IS PREPARED. (Matt. 25:41)
IV. HELL IS PROMISED. (Those who reject Christ will go there) (He is the only way aound it)
V. HELL IS ETERNALLY PUNITIVE. (Apart from Christ, man is eternally guilty)
VI. HELL IS PERMANENT. (There are no exits in hell)
VII. HELL IS A BOTTOMLESS PIT.
VIII. HELL IS PREVENTABLE. (Accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour)
Conclusion: Jesus died to prevent us from ending up in a burning hell. How can we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation?
