A Sealed Letter

Summary: Did you know that when you accepted Christ, God sealed you?
Today I want to talk to you about being sealed by God.
I brought a letter today that I need to send to a friend. You can see that this letter is not sealed yet. You might be wondering what this letter is that I’m sending. Is it an invitation to something? Is it just a friendly letter? What does the letter say? This letter is written to a particular friend and to no one else. It is not for anyone else.
I might leave this letter on my desk and have to leave my office for awhile. While I am gone, you might be tempted to open the letter and read it to see what it is all about. And you would be able to do that because the letter is not sealed. You could take the letter out and read it and then put it back into the envelope and I would never know that you read it. That’s because the letter wasn’t sealed.
But if I lick the envelope and seal it like this, then you can’t read it. It is against the law to open and read anyone’s mail except the person that it is addressed to.
Even after I mail this letter, if I forgot to put something in the envelope after I sealed it, I can’t get it back from the post office. They won’t let anyone have this letter except the person that it is addressed to. Now what does all of this have to do with us and God?
Did you know that when you accepted Christ, God sealed you? Have someone read Eph 4:30. Every Christian is sealed by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God Himself and I don’t know anyone in all the world who could break a seal like that.
You could break the law and open this letter, but not even Satan can take away the salvation that God has given you.
It is possible that the glue on this envelope may not stick well and the letter could come open before it is delivered. But it is not possible that the Holy Spirit will leave you or ever die.
It could also happen that this letter could get lost and would not be delivered, but if you are a Christian, God guarantees that He will deliver you into His presence some day, because you are sealed until the day of redemption.
That means that when you accept Jesus as your Savior, the Holy Spirit comes to live inside you to direct you from that day forward. You are then a child of God. And when the day comes for you to leave this earth, God will deliver you to your new home in heaven.
God’s seal is on you just like this seal is on this envelope. But God guarantees that His seal will not be broken and that you will be delivered. Isn’t that a wonderful salvation? That’s God’s gift to you when you accept Jesus as your very own.
