By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr.

TEXT:

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23. Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

WE ARE STUDYING THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT

By studying the fruit of the Spirit maybe we can

identify some problem areas, some weak areas and

grow to be more fruitful.

What can we do to produce a great amount of fruit?

We can study and develop a love and an appreciation

and an awareness of fruit and it’s production!

We have broken the nine into three groups.

1. Inward: love, joy, peace

2. Outward: longsuffering-patience,

gentleness-kindness, goodness.

3. Godward: faith-faithfulness, meekness,

temperance-self control.

Today’s study of PEACE IS OUR 3rd STUDY, THE THIRD, AND LAST IN THE INWARD GROUP.

With six more to follow.

TEXT:

Isaiah 26:3 Thou will keep in PERFECT PEACE, whose MIND is stayed on YOU: because he TRUSTED IN YOU!

John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in Me.

John 14:27 PEACE I leave with you, MY PEACE I GIVE TO YOU: not as the world gives, give I unto you. LET NOT YOUR HEART BE TROUBLED, NEITHER LET IT BE AFRAID.

Philippians 4:7 And the PEACE of God, which PASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING, shall KEEP YOUR HEARTS AND MINDS, through Christ Jesus.

Psalms 34:13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.

14. Depart from evil, and DO GOOD, SEEK PEACE, AND PURSUE IT!

Romans 12:18 --- as much as lies in you, live peaceably with all men.

Hebrews 12:14 Follow PEACE with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.

1. DEFINE PEACE:

--calm --truce --cease fire

--free from agitation of mind and spirit

--the state of tranquillity or quiet

--a state of security and order within

--freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions.

--harmony in personal relationships

--an agreement to stop hostilities between those that have been at enmity

--free from tension --serene --placid --lighthearted

--physically, mentally and emotionally undisturbed

2. OFTEN CHRISTIANS AND THOSE FROM THE MIDDLE EAST GREET AND SAY FAIR WELL WITH SHALOM.

SHALOM cannot be fully translated into English,

for the word is so full of meaning.

Shalom means a total, well rounded wellness; a

fullness, a great peace that envelopes the

completeness of the individual.

3. A TROUBLED HEART IS A MIS-FOCUSED AND POORLY DISCIPLINED HEART!

John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe

in God, believe also in Me.

This verse is an IMPERATIVE COMMAND. The subject is

YOU understood.

A troubled heart that rules a spirit is self

inflicted and a process of doubt and confusion will

grow out of troubled heart. We must trust God.

John goes on to say:

John 14:27 PEACE I leave with you, MY PEACE I GIVE

TO YOU: not as the world gives, give I unto you.

LET NOT YOUR HEART BE TROUBLED, NEITHER LET IT

BE AFRAID.

4. THERE IS A PEACE THAT PASSESALL UNDERSTANDING!

Philippians 4:7 And the PEACE of God, which PASSES

ALL UNDERSTANDING, shall KEEP YOUR HEARTS AND MINDS,

through Christ Jesus.

There is a fruit of the Spirit that multiplies

itself and when trouble and woes would

smother us, God has a Divine gift, will you accept

HIS PEACE?

5. IS PERFECT PEACE AVAILABLE?

Yes, few find it, but there is a gift of perfect

peace.

Isaiah 26:3 Thou will keep in PERFECT PEACE, whose

MIND is stayed on YOU:because he TRUSTED IN YOU!

THERE IS A LITTLE PRACTICED FORMULA FOR PERFECT

PEACE.

1. TRUST GOD. No matter what happens you should

trust God. He is in control.

2. FIX YOU MIND. Once you decide to trust God,

don’t waver, accept His Plan.

3. PERFECT PEACE will be yours if you will follow

and trust God and His word.

6. YOU HAVE A DUTY TO SEEK GOD’S PEACE!

THE TONGUE HAS MUCH TO DO --- IF YOU LEARN TO LIVE IN PEACE.

Psalms 34:13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips

from speaking guile.

14. Depart from evil, and DO GOOD, SEEK PEACE, AND

PURSUE IT!

The peace of God will not be sustained in lifestyles

that lead away from God.

Colossians 3:15 And let the peace of God rule your

hearts, to the which also ye are

called in one body; and be ye thankful.

Where there is peace there is unity. AGAIN WE SEE

THE IMPERATIVE COMMAND, YOU MUST ACCEPT THE PEACE OF

GOD.

7. HIS PEACE DEPENDS UPON YOU AVOIDING EVIL AND OBEYING HIS WORD!

1 Peter 3:11 Let him eschew evil, and do good; let

him SEEK PEACE, and ENSUE it.

8. WE NEED PEACE WITH OTHERS. PEACE STARTS AT HOME, AND GROWS IN THE CHURCH.
