Galatians 1:11-24

“The Gospel from Christ”

• What we proclaim

• What God can use.

• Vv. 11-12 “I certify you” also said let me make this perfectly clear.

• Paul often refers to this revelation (unveiling  wasn’t something that did not exist, but was previously unknown), the mystery of the faith

Romans 16:25-26, 25 Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which has been kept secret for long ages past, 26 but now is manifested, and by the Scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the eternal God, has been made known to all the nations, leading to obedience of faith;

1 Corinthians 2:6-7, 6 Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away; 7 but we speak God’s wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory;

Ephesians 3:2-6, 2 if indeed you have heard of the stewardship of God’s grace which was given to me for you; 3 that by revelation there was made known to me the mystery, as I wrote before in brief. 4 By referring to this, when you read you can understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, 5 which in other generations was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed to His holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit; 6 to be specific, that the Gentiles are fellow heirs and fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel,

• Paul is very clear on the fact that this mystery was taught to him not by men but directly by the Lord Jesus Himself.

• Vv. 13-14 Paul contrasts that which he learned from Jesus and that which was taught to him by men.

• “Jews’ religion” Paul is specifically referring to the type of pharisaical Judaism that rose during the times between the two testaments.

• “Traditions of my fathers” oral traditions that governed how a person lived, it became how they attempted to uphold the Mosaic Law Mishna

• Matthew 15:1-3, 6b

• Vv. 15-16a 3 things: 1. When he was called. 2. How he was called. 3. Why he was called.

• Vv. 16b-17 Paul went away to receive more instruction from God and not from man  idea of discipleship

• Vv. 18-19 Paul spent 3 years in Arabia and Damascus, learning and preaching, until he finally went up to Jerusalem  because of the uniqueness of Paul’s ministry.

• Vv. 20-21 Paul goes to Syria and Cilicia (Tarsus and Antioch)  Paul was already suffering persecution in Jerusalem (Acts 9:26-30)

• Vv. 22-24 Now the very Christians that ran in fear from Saul were now glorifying God because of Paul. Why?

• Paul allowed himself to be taught by God and allowed his life to be used by God.
