INTRODUCTION
The anointing is the power of God that enables believers to fulfill their divine purpose and accomplish supernatural exploits. It is not merely a feeling or experience but a divine empowerment to carry out God’s assignments effectively. However, the anointing must be activated in our lives to operate in its full capacity. Today, we will explore how to activate the anointing in our lives and walk in the fullness of God’s power.
1. UNDERSTANDING THE ANOINTING
a) What is the Anointing? (Isaiah 61:1)
The anointing is the manifest presence and power of the Holy Spirit that comes upon a person for a specific purpose. Isaiah 61:1 explains that the anointing is given to empower us to preach, heal, and set captives free. It is divine enablement that equips us to serve in the capacity God has called us to.
b) Jesus Christ, the Anointed One (Acts 10:38)
The Bible tells us that Jesus was anointed by God with the Holy Spirit and power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil because God was with Him. This same anointing that was upon Jesus is available to every believer.
2. KEYS TO ACTIVATING THE ANOINTING
a) Desire and Hunger for God (Matthew 5:6)
The first step to activating the anointing is to cultivate a deep hunger and thirst for God. When we passionately desire more of God, He responds by filling us with His Spirit. The anointing cannot be activated in a lukewarm or indifferent heart—it requires a longing to see God's power manifest in our lives.
b) Consistent Prayer and Fasting (Luke 4:1-2, 14)
Jesus was led into the wilderness to fast and pray, and afterward, He returned in the power of the Spirit. Consistent prayer and fasting create an atmosphere for the anointing to be activated. These spiritual disciplines align our hearts with God's will and prepare us to receive and walk in His power.
c) Living a Life of Holiness (2 Timothy 2:21)
Holiness is essential for activating the anointing. The anointing thrives in a life that is set apart for God. Sin hinders the flow of the Holy Spirit, while purity and obedience create a conducive environment for the power of God to operate. We must live in a way that honours God, and the anointing will flow freely.
3. THE PURPOSE OF THE ANOINTING
a) To Preach and Minister with Power (Luke 4:18)
The anointing empowers us to preach the gospel with authority and effectiveness. It is not by our own might or power but by the Spirit of God that we can minister with transformative impact. The anointing breaks the yokes of bondage and brings deliverance to the oppressed.
b) To Heal the Sick and Set Captives Free (Isaiah 61:1-2)
One of the primary purposes of the anointing is to bring healing and deliverance. The anointing enables us to lay hands on the sick, cast out demons, and set people free from spiritual oppression. Wherever the anointing is present, miracles, signs, and wonders follow.
c) To Fulfill God's Purpose for Your Life (Acts 13:2-3)
The anointing empowers us to fulfill the specific calling God has placed on our lives. Whether it is in ministry, business, or any other sphere, the anointing equips us to carry out God’s assignments with supernatural ability. It is through the anointing that we can achieve things beyond our natural capacity.
4. MAINTAINING THE FLOW OF THE ANOINTING
a) Stay Connected to the Source (John 15:5)
Jesus is the source of the anointing, and we must stay connected to Him if we want to maintain the flow of His power in our lives. Daily communion with God through prayer, worship, and the Word keeps us in tune with the Holy Spirit and sustains the anointing.
b) Stir Up the Gift of God (2 Timothy 1:6)
Paul advised Timothy to stir up the gift of God that was within him. The anointing can be stirred through prayer, worship, and exercising the gifts of the Spirit. We must actively seek opportunities to use the anointing God has given us, and as we do, it will increase.
c) Avoid Pride and Self-Reliance (James 4:6)
The anointing is a gift from God, and we must remain humble and dependent on Him. Pride and self-reliance can quench the flow of the anointing. Recognize that it is not by your power or ability but by the grace of God that you are able to minister in the anointing.
CONCLUSION
The anointing is a divine empowerment that equips us to fulfill God's purpose and manifest His power on the earth. However, it must be activated through hunger for God, prayer, fasting, holiness, and staying connected to the source—Jesus Christ. When the anointing is activated, it breaks yokes, heals the sick, and enables us to fulfill our calling with supernatural power. Let us seek God passionately, activate the anointing in our lives, and walk in the fullness of His power.
